If that guy lived it was only by about a second. That was a lot of lateral G's regardless and the human body can't withstand very much.

Way back when I was a salesman in NJ. Pre 9/11 (way pre- 1985) I used get my lunch and pull up next to the tracks and watch the trains go by. It was in an open area between NY and PHL. If you were close to the tracks and your "angle off" was small it looks as if the train is barely moving-then ZOOM!- it's there. Honestly, if you go around crossing bars, I think you might be helping improve the gene pool. Not that that helps the engineers.
