Default Type rating listed aircraft

Was looking through my grandfathers old log book when he was a Continental Captain, and he listed aircraft that I'm not familiar with. I tried to google the listings but couldn't find much. These are what he flew at CAL:
B-707 B-720 CV-240 CV-340 CV-440 DC-3 DC-6 DC-7 DC-9 DC-10 VC-700 VC-800.
I know the B stands for Boeing, the CV for Convair, and DC Douglas. I'm not sure about the VC-700 and -800. These are the ones I couldn't find info on. Can some one help? I'm impressed with the list of aircraft flew. I knew through talking to him before he passed away this June that he flew DC-10, 707s, and DC-3s. I'm supprised with DC-9 and the rest of the types.
