Default Civil air patrol

I searched through and read some of the older posts but noone has a question that is for my boat, they are all PPL's

So I live in NJ, just got my COMM. and got my IR, and will even get my ME sometime soon. I am going into my senior year at Rutgers, and want to do some flying this fall and I do enjoy helping out as well. For example I am student council president, and make penut butter and jelly sandwiches at the local school in new Brunswick with the middle school students which goes to the homeless.

That being said I contacted the civil air patrol unit in Sayerville and was invited to their meeting on Tuesday. They don't have any pilot at all and sounded excited that I called, esp when I said I had my IR. Now my question in, ESP for someone in the CAP in NJ, what is the best unit to join, I want to fly and be helpful and go on cool missions. I have met people who have done it other places, such as up by Stewart in NY and they get alot of flying and missions, but I have talked to people who say they show up to meetings and flew once ever 2 months and just basically play flight instructor to 12 year olds and never do much else, once every 2 months for 2 hours.

What is everyones in put? Esp those who may still be doing it in NJ!?

If CAP is your type of people go for it.
Find out what units have aircraft, they generally do the most flying. Don't expect to just jump in a fly... it will probably be a bunch of paperwork followed by a bunch of waiting followed by more paperwork before you get to fly. They will probably want you to be their "Aerospace Education Officer" which can be rewarding and frusterating. From my experience most "missions" happen at 3am just when you are in a nice, deep sleep... you go out to look for someone who had a bad landing and activated their ELT. Some "missions" were not bad as far as flying goes and can be fun.
Most CAP Senior Members are, to put it bluntly, a disgrace to the USAF style uniform. Some...however... are truly dedicated to their mission and do it well.

but yeah... try to find a unit with an aircraft at least
