Default Planes and Paint Jobs Of The Past

If you have any pics of extinct aircraft or airline livery, post here. I'll start with a few:

I can't remember if this was KIAD or KORD. I think it was KIAD mid-field...

Though it's hard to tell, it's Eastern on very short final to KDCA in 1987. Something about a B757 going overhead at 100 feet!

KIAD A-gates in 1987. That was a new B737-300 back then. Behind it is a New York Air DC-9-30. NYA, or "Apple" which was their callsign, was later absorbed into COA. Apple was sort of a mini-SWA. Very cheap flights, no frills, etc.

Okay, your turn.

Your First picture is at LAX...Terminal 6 (with its signature rotunda) is on the right, Terminal 7 on the left. The Office Buildings on Sepulveda Blvd are in the distance.

Here's one I took at AEX (I think...)

Same plane in various liveries:

I have a soft spot for DC-9s. Don't know why, but my favorite livery on a DC-9 is Eastern Air Lines.

That's weird. I must have gotten that pic from a book or somewhere, as I haven't been to LAX since '72. Hope it's not copyrighted! I had it on a disc with other scanned photos I took...Guess I'm geezing.

Always was partial to the CO "Proud Bird with Golden Tail" 727. Brought my dad back from Vietnam. Still remember it taxiing in....

Default Kaex Dc-9..

Mitragorz:

It is at AEX; saw this airplane last week. I've seen it there for at least 5 years that I can remember.

About a year ago, I had some time to kill, so wandered over to this airplane and some 727s that were being scrapped (very sad to see).

The DC-9 isn't even sitting on real landing gear---it is crudely welded angle-iron, tubing, and either large truck tires or small tractor tires!! Funny part was, I never realized it until I got up close.

The "engines" are two-to-a-side 50-gal drums filled with cement. I guess they wanted this abomination to stay in CG.

I think they were using it for fire practice, so it has this home-made gear and towbar. But it is so poorly attached, I'd be afraid it would collapse if they moved it.

being from aex, maybe i can shed some light....a company called Pride Aviation did major checks, cargo mods etc. on 727s 737s dc9s and md80s...company went out of business...that 9 was parted out as much as it could be but never left...i never heard of it being used for fire training..it is on wheels so it can be moved..all the 727s have been scrapped...i assume this 9 will be as well....
