Today Is A Palindrome
Here's another interesting tidbit. It's also almost, if not completely, as meaningless as the Blue Moon on December 31, 2009.
Local News | 01/02/2010: Backward and forward, this date is lining up as a rarity | Seattle Times Newspaper
And do you pronounce "palindrome" with a short "a" like in "penpal" or a long "a" like in Sarah Palin?
Ok, ok, I've exhausted my store of useless trivia for the year.

Arbitrary, based on the convention of expressing the date.
Sure, using MM/DD/YYYY, today's a palindrome.
But if one uses DD/MM/YYYY, February the 1st is a palindrome: 01/02/2010
Or, if one uses DD/MM/YY, we'll see a palindrome in November: 01/11/10
MM/DD/YY -- happens in 9 days -- 01/11/10
I'm more excited about November 11th of next year -- something cosmic is sure to occur as the clock ticks 11:11:11 on 11/11/11. (If we only knew which time zone is controlling.)
Whoopy-tee-doo. Like Napolean said, "Able was I ere I saw Elba."
