Jungle, do you happen to do your own reloads? If so, Old ammo would be awesome for you...

Pop out the cap, pull the lead, polish the brass, add new cap, add new powder, re crimp and fire.... More to it than that.... But yea, you get the Idea... I shoot competition Trap and Skeet, and I reload each casing two/three times.... Depending on the brand.

I have shot plenty of 40+ year old ammo with nary a problem. As long as it isn't corroded, damaged through repeated chambering and hasn't been stored under hellish conditions it will outlast most of us. My previous post was mostly in jest.

Ah, darn these interwebs, its hard to tell seriousness from the not so serious...

I had a bad experiance with some old ammo once...

I had several old Shotgun shells, you know the paper ones, well I had never shot one, and I had the bright Idea to load one up in my old single shot and pop it off... Well, Im not a totall idiot, so I did consult my father and he said it should be just fine.... Long and short of it... I pull the trigger, I here the evil click of a miss fire... I pull the shotgun off of my should and BOOM! the butt jumps up and busts my nose...

Later on, my I was informed that he forgot to mention their could be a delay... Nice huh? Never again!

that was a funny story....reminds of one:

I was shooting with a SF guy who recently got back from overseas... he was shooting an older Ruger semi-auto, the ammo was pretty old 9mm.. I thought I heard a faint "pop" from his pistol, but figured that since he was SF he'd know what he was doing and so I didn't really think twice about it... I looked over saw him rack the slide chamber ejecting the case, chambering another round... before I could think to say anything he pulled the trigger on the next round.... luckily we heard just a faint "pop" again.... he was a little agitated at the weapon, so we took it apart.......and sure enough two (!) squib rounds were in the barrel... the ammo in the magazine (that had been there for at least 6 years) had a green film around the cap....that was a very, very lucky day.

Oh wow... I have never had that happen... However, one day on the range, I was proned out squeezing off rounds with the M249 SAW, and some how my ammo chain, back lashes and double feeds into the reciever. Next thing I know, Pieces of chain are flying all over me, and these things are HOT!!!They fall down the back of my shirt, the next thing I know I am doing this sort of "Ants in my pants" roll around on the ground... The range boss, comes walking over, and in his best John Wayne he goes "Well, partner, It looks like yer gonna have ta get a new shirt... Now run along and call a medic pard."

Moral of the story... Always flip the collar up opn your ACU's, thats what its there for... use it...
