From an enginering perspective:

Not too hard to build it and make it walk...

But REALLY impressive that the thing can recover from slipping or being kicked sideways...make no mistake, that takes some real smarts for both the control algorithms and the systems integration.

This guy will probably be getting a DoD contract if doesn't have one already.

It's funded by DARPA from what it says at the end of the video. It is pretty impressive with the "reflexes" that it has. Also mentions a 350lb payload, on top of it's 235(think that was it) weight. Now if they could power it with something besides a weed-eater I'd be happy!

sounds like a glow engine(RC engine) that is being used to power the hydraulic pump. If they went electric I am sure it would take a lot of batteries. In the "Lab" it looked to be attached to an external hydraulic source. It was rather creepy to watch.
