Default Shuttle Endeavour Launch 7-13-09

Crew loaded into the Shuttle now. Just came out of a weather hold. Currently 16 minutes and counting as of 1450 PDT.

Looking marginal so far. 40% change of a go for launch.

Storm Cells and lightening in the area

Live TV if you want to watch. Takes a moment to load.

Sounds more like Ohare than NASA...

Not looking good. 3 No-go's for weather as of right now.

Not scrubbed yet, but close. It appears that the Launch Window will close before it clears.

Phase One Lightening Alert at the Launch Site.

Again, live TV if you want to watch. Takes a moment to load.

I dont get the time they chose to launch the shuttle. NASA being here all these years they should know the weather in the afternoon in Florida during the summer time, is hardly ever favorable for a launch. (being that we are the lightning capital of the world, and afternoon thunderstorms.)

Ill rather have them launch in the early morning hours, probably not in the window to intercept the station, or whatever other satellite up there. But at least make it up there while in orbit, instead of spending all this money on scrub launches.

@Bri85

Disclaimer: Not a Rocket Scientist.

Everything is based on the alignment of the ISS orbit so that once the Shuttle reaches altitude, minimal maneuvering places them in proximity of the ISS. Hence, the "launch window".

Not doing so would require a substantial amount of "additional" maneuvering fuel to intercept.

Same logic applied when they went up to service the Hubble. Backup (rescue) Shuttle on standby, in lieu of maneuvering down to the ISS in case of emergency.
