Default Airport Lounges

Is it common for pilots to get memberships to passenger airport lounges (Admiral's Club, United Red Carpet, etc.) to wait out delays, layovers, etc.? Seems like the complimentary soft drinks, breakfasts, etc. might pay for themselves over the cost of a year.

Any prohibitions about going into the lounges in uniform?

I think there might be some lounges that restrict uniforms, but it would be a great idea for someone who has airport standby shift all month!

I use to have a membership to the president's club for CAL, and I gotta tell ya, it was definitely worth it, particularly for commuters as not only is it a great place to relax, but the majority of them have a shower facility as well. Also it's great when you're non-reving, it certainly came in handy a few times. There's a uniform restriction, so all you have to do is have a shirt or two you can change into and you're set.

I didn't renew mine, I don't commute, and ended up using the $400 for something else, but I do know a few guys that commute that take full advantage of it.

I've looked at a few, most seem to have uniform restrictions. I know that Delta and Continental do.

To my knowledge all airline clubs have restrictions on wearing uniforms in the club. Most airlines have a lounge or area for their crews anyway, away from the general public, so why would you want to spend the money? Plus the last thing you want to do is be in uniform during a delay. Doesn't matter if its your flight or not or just walking though the terminal but you will get thousands of questions and maybe even blamed personally for the delay.
