Looks like a cub. probably lost partial power, like popping a can.

All it takes with these banners.

Seen more than one go down and know more than one pilot dying in the banner planes.

I'd say it was a Pawnee.

yeah, looks low wing, I remember the pawnee had a rounder wing tip.

you're probably closer.

Some Pawnees have a cuff on the wing tip that looks square from above. What I can't figure is the witness statement that the banner was dragging. Maybe didn't pull up enough on the pick up?

Pilot was a ramper for SkyWest in SLC.

Company website has his photo up on main page and a thread for employees to comment on...

It IS possible, but that would be less likely than a partial power failure.
