Default QANTAS sacks pilots after flightdeck argument

Just weeks after Qantas stood down a captain for returning a positive alcohol reading, it has emerged that another captain and a second officer on a 747-400 had an argument over the take-off calculations they should be punching into the passenger jet's computer system.

If these fellas are REAL Aussies, they'd be punching each other instead of punching numbers into the computer.

FlightGear -

Unless there is more to the incident than reported in the article that you provided, the title of your post seems to allude that the two pilots have been fired (sacked). The article states that the two pilots seem to have been temporarily grounded while the investigation is conducted
Quote:
Qantas has since launched an investigation into the dispute between the two pilots who have been told they cannot fly.
Quote:
The managers were later informed of the argument between the pilots and stood them down.
Does "sacked" mean something else down under?

Given the incredibly steep authority gradient in QF cockpits, either the SO snapped or the Captain was going to do something really stupid.

It'll be interesting to hear the real story, if it ever comes out.

That doesn't exactly inspire confidence (present safety record notwithstanding).

USMCFLYR-

You make an interesting point. Sacked means the same thing here, but stood down doesn't. Often stood down is a soft synonym used by the MSM here when they don't want to say sacked, fired or suspended for fear of offending advertising revenue sources...

Recently a captain that blew a positive blood alcohol reading whilst on the flight deck was, according to QANTAS, ''withheld from service for administrative reasons'' as opposed to being suspended pending investigation and counselling.

Also stood down or suspended wouldn't fit in the title...
