Default Rearm the pilots

Despite dire predictions from a few, armed pilots have amassed a record of safety that is the envy of Federal Law Enforcement while providing a crucial layer of deterrence and protection for the traveling public.

But despite the bipartisan support, the exemplary safety record, the obviously effective deterrent and the extremely low costs, (you-know-who) continues to attempt to defund this outstanding example of public/private cooperation and has set up road blocks that discourage the highest possible level of participation from airline pilots.
Arm Pilots to restoring safety in airliner cockpits

Do a little research and discover how things were prior to 1968, no security checks and many pilots were required to carry weapons because of postal contracts. No problems. No training. No administration.

Simple, cheap and effective.

I really wish you would stop making sense. You can be trusted to shuttle the guinea pigs in the back but lord forbid we hand you a weapon for self defense and the possible saving of a thousand lives.

Again, FFDOS have stopped an equal number of terrorist attacks and elephant stampedes.

Admit it, this is all about gun nuts who want to feel like big men because they have carte blanche to walk around packing. Apparently you boys feel the need to overcompensate for some other physical shortcoming.

Hoplophobia is an ugly disease.

I know a place I can drop you off in Oakland to test your theory.

What if your post above was dated 9/10/2001 and there was already an FFDO program in place. 9/11 might have ended a lot differently. Deterrence is a tough thing to quantify when it's working.

You know what isn't a deterrent? The FA standing in front of a drink cart while you meander out of the bathroom after a visit with your "shortcoming" without even a glance in the direction of possible threat. Can't happen to me.

BTW, I'm not an FFDO or a gun nut.

Young Sherlock doesn't know that two hijackers were shot by pilots on two separate occasions prior to 1968.

Or that the greatest threat to the flight deck for many years has been fruitcake passengers. Many crew members have been assaulted and even killed by the nutty pax who happened to make his way to the pointy end.

Say what. Passengers get thru security all the time with weapons of some kind if it happens on your flight you better hope the other guy is carrying since you have no need to "over compensate"

I prefer the clear deterrent effect an armed cockpit to the vague protections of TSA. Seem better at pilfering valuables from baggage than finding illicit weapons
