There are lots of posts on the UPS thread that are negative, too. It's hard to believe that pilots can complain so vehemently while working for an airline where they could make $150k+ on a domestic 757 in their second year, but they do. Some of the boys in brown just really hate their job.

I guess it's all about their perspective.

For some of us, Atlas is a job that sucks and is headed down the crapper with this Southern thing.

For others, Atlas is a pretty good job that has great potential with the Southern thing, but has a really weak contract that needs to be fixed.

It's all about your perspective.

If you want a ready made career at an airline where you won't have to work to improve much of anything, Atlas probably isn't the place for you. But, if you have the fire in your belly for a good fight to help make this place a career destination, then, c'mon over. The potential is here for a great career, but you're gonna have to help us fight for it.

Default Greetings..

Good day Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've been following this thread for quite some time now, but was too busy reading and trying to catch up on all the great info here to make any posts..
Now that I have the interview done, got the 'good word', and am awaiting the call for a start date, I guess now would be as good a time as any to chime in and say, hello.

So, before anyone has to ask..
My basic quals are: 6,500TT, 4,500JET (some PIC JET), multiple jet types, including heavy jet and international transoceanic.
- Interviewed on: JAN 20th (found it to be a pleasurable experience, with lots of great candidates)
- Successful email received: JAN 22nd (replied with indication that I'll require two weeks notice)

From what I understand, there is 747 class beginning on the 22nd (which is now looking to be a little too soon for my two weeks notice)..
Does anyone have any INTEL on whether the 22nd class has been filled, or if any calls have begun to go out for any upcoming classes?

If I can be of assistance to anyone with an interview on the horizon, or whatever, don't hesitate to ask..
I will happily do my best to play it forward..

Did you attend a job fair, or did you simply submit your resume and PAQ through the listed email?

I did not attend a job fair..
..just the regular application; resume and PAQ.
However, I suppose I should mention that I did have a few internal recommends.. perhaps that made a difference(?)

No job fair here either. My internal recs are almost certainly what made things happen.

It's that bad and yes, the sky is falling. I just talked to a number of buddies who are around 15 year 400 Captains looking to bounce from this place. Nikebuddy is right on, we're calling a spade a spade. With that being said, Mannymal and others looking to come on board, I really do wish you the very best and thank you for your statement that "you can fully expect me to stand with the pilot group. I always have". That means allot and we will need guys like you to hold the line and get through this. Just be forewarned, you're jumping right into the middle of a giant (no pun intended) $hitshow.

Where is the like button on this thing?!!

Those looking to come here must understand this company is NOT interested in making your life easy...they are not interested in paying you industry standard wages, etc etc...

It is up to the pilot group to force them to come to the table, and negotiate with us in good faith...and that is the fight that will be in your lap if you come.

Be prepared for that...okay, so you are on probation as a newbie. Fine. But after that first year is over, 100% contract compliance is what's required by the pilot group and certainly the Union. Your future depends on it.

Whether you use Atlas as a stepping stone or are planning to make it a home, understand that while you are here, you will have to take on the company at every turn, on a daily basis, and unlike what you are used to at the Regional you come from, from the corporate world, from the military, etc etc...

It is time for the pilot group that is already here to expect nothing but 100% compliance from EVERY pilot.

The sky isn't falling. But what some of us are trying to convey is that the fight is on -- it's on because the company is choosing that avenue going forward. It is not a fight that we the pilots want but that is what they want. So prepare accordingly, and plan accordingly.

Perspective

I've been with my organization for 19 years. I fly a 60 year old jet that has constant mx issues. No union. fly anywhere from 0-120 hours a month. Incur a 10 year commitment upon completion of training. Lots of back side of the clock flying with min crew rest. No retirement match. frequent 80 day trips. Stay in a moldy plywood box not big enough to get dressed in. No catering. Pay rates will never increase. I made $78K last year in the left seat flying mostly international in heavy aircraft. Wouldn't have traded it.

Seems like the folks who post on these forums are either trying to get hired somewhere or already work there and have nothing good to say. That goes for all carriers....Delta, FedEx, you name it. The people who are content/happy don't feel the need to log on to the google-tron to let the world know how satisfactory their lives are.

Congrats to you guys moving to Atlas. I knocked out the test about a month ago and I'm hoping for that call some day.
