Now, if you were going to a job fair and talking to the Atlas reps, giving them your resume, your PAQ, an internal rec letter if you have one, AND a cover letter probably wouldn't be a mistake.
But it's been covered in the thread multiple times, as far as the email submission goes, not necessary.

I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to say it's dead. There were a few apps open for other carriers recently that had an upload option for cover letters, etc.

I would slightly disagree with the cover letter though at job fairs. The three I've been to, the recruiters have all of five minutes with each applicant, they usually mark up and write notes on the resume. If there's a cover letter over the resume, they may end up writing their notes on the cover letter instead of the resume. I would suggest inserting a cover letter with the thank-you card you send after the job fair.
'Course, I'm still looking for a job, so maybe my tactic isnt working.

I wish cover letters were still used. I'm tired of filling out online forms that turn me into a bunch of numbers with zero personality. If places like Atlas (and 75% of other carriers) truly were concerned with the person and not just the numbers then they would embrace cover letters. But alas, I understand no one has time to read 1000 cover letters anymore. It's a shame, it'd be really easy to weed out 50% of applicants on grammar and spelling alone. This thread is a testament to that.

I was just curious about the flying out of HSV. From what I've read on here, it sounds like more of the trips out of HSV might actually start and finish in base, which has tax implications. Also, is the flying as varied as much as it is out of another base like JFK, or do you hit the same locations more frequently?

Hours and numbers are hours and numbers. Talking to someone is a much better way of weeding out the folks who won't fit into the program. You may disagree, but it's their ball and their bat.

I hear ya on the job fair waiting time. I got about 4 minutes on my first job fair, 8 minutes on my second (I had a buddy timing on both, silly, eh?) and about 5 minutes with Atlas at WAI. The wait time was about five minutes (I know the recruiters had to be exhausted, there were a LOT of people at WAI, and I think I got to them when they were in a lull. I know a lot of people were there specifically to talk to Atlas!), so bad on me for not going back to the end of the line to talk to another recruiter. I had two copies of my resume/PAQ for Atlas, I'm kicking myself for not trying to get both copies in the hands of two different recruiters! Aaaarrggghhh!
But, after five minutes and hearing, "well, thank you for your interest, we get a lot of applications, just keep trying" twice from the same lady in those five minutes, I was a little disheartened. Still not deterred though! The 5th of the month is right around the corner!
