I'm doing this backwards.

I interviewed in April and am in the pool. At the suggestion of one of my interview "classmates" I'm checking out the forum. I did not have the advantage of reading through it beforehand. Its not necessary, but it sure is nice! I'm reading it now as I'm getting hopeful for classes.

Many folks have asked how long it takes to get the call. I first submitted my resume to Polar in 2007. I started getting serious with Atlas in 2011 by regularly sending resumes and such. Got the call March of 2013. Atlas is and has been my top pick and I'm happy to be given a chance to go there.

I can verify that the screening information and interview experiences posted on the forum are pretty accurate. I wish I'd known about them beforehand!

Best yet is the fact that interviews are happening again. That means the pool is getting shallow and hopefully we'll see classes soon! Best of luck to all.

+1. We are splitting hairs now about this logging time while the Captain is sleeping. I have seen a few, probably 3% of the guys I fly with actually put their names on the release and log the time. It's only going to be a max of 3 hours. When you put Type rating: 747-400, -8F on your resume and after a couple of years you have 30 hours of PIC time, as an interviewer I would be curious about what this guy is trying to do by taking the trouble to log this. AS said above. How many stripes again when you logged this time? As an interviewer it would look silly. So why are you taking the trouble to impress the interviewer with this? In addition, this will not help you upgrade to Captain any faster at Atlas. Why bother? The FOM doesn't say you must do this and it really is quite silly in IMHO.

We're falling into the rabbit hole on this, but...

We generally agree that FOs should never log this as PIC in their personal logbooks. (but hey, you wanna log it, be my guest)

However, the FOM requires the Relief PIC log the time and sign the release. Most of my flights on the 767 are under 8 hours, so it's a bit of a rare occurrence, but a check airman made such a fuss about this, I figured you guys do it all the time on the 747.

We aren't required to do this on the 767, it is in the FOM for the Whale. The light twin PIC circles and signs on the release and we go under 121.483. There are no sleeping facilities on the 767, and there is no transfer of PIC authority while underway. The FO who keeps the left seat warm while the PIC is "on break" is not the "Relief PIC".

For the 744, reference 121.485(a) for flights greater than 12 hours: They are required to have a sleeping facility and that's why they get to do the extra work on the OFP.

Congratulations blue! A question for you and everyone else on here, how often were you regularly resubmitting your resume? how often is too often?

I was a little confused when people were saying they were 'updating their application' as I don't remember filling out a formal application. Just sending in my resume and PAQ.

I applied the first time in 2011. I keep sending in new resumes and paqs but to no avail. I keep doing so and keep hoping for that call. Soon I hope. Atlas is my no. 1 as well. Any suggestions?

Zap's background, like others that have gotten the call, really is irrelevant. The applicants all meet the mins which makes them all qualified as I am sure you are as well. To further my point, Atlas does not even want you to bring your logbook to the interview.

Beyond the mins, one can seperate themselves from the pack by networking and updating their app.
