Oh well, I just work here.
1 747 FO now costs them 2 types... 1 767 FO moves to the 747 and a new hire goes to the 767. Management knows the 767 will now be the junior airplane. As for expansion... They've gotta be able to out train attrition which they've been unable to do so far this year. We've hired between 60-70 (counting the class that just started) and the pilot group is smaller than January 1st...

As long as the 747 staffing remains at current levels (and actually with the number that are leaving), it would mean they will continue to hire into the 747. That will require Atlas to let the 767 FOs go to the 747, and hire into the 767.

Most of my 'friends' had Atlas interviews recently and have future interviews with the Big 3 within the next month. I suspect several guys will start training with Atlas and leave for another Company while still in Miami. Wonder how that will make Atlas management feel... For example, Delta is going crazy right now with hiring. Which young guy will pass on Delta for 'great wide body flying' at Atlas? (plus leave 1.5M+ on the table by age 65) You guys really think our next contract will be much better? My last 'cold breakfast only' experience proves otherwise.

This has allegedly been happening all year. The type bumps your resume up and you get a call shortly there after. In the next contract management will possibly want a clause where you pay them back for the type if you don't stay long enough, but I say we hold out on that unless we get an industry standard contract.

Also, I'm betting the 10% difference between what Atlas contributes and what a major contributes is worth much more than $1.5 million for a 25-30 year old. I bet it's worth more than that to a 40 year old when you factor in that you make more at a major...

Your assessment of the job market is likely true...but I am not as willing as you to accept that our next CBA negotiations will be a pointless exercise...sorry, but that is a defeatist outlook that I refuse to accept.

I don't think so. Do other "industry standard" airline contracts have training contracts in them? Not that I'm aware of. If you have a good contract, people will want to stay and you won't need it.

Just got an email saying atlas is very busy. Travel dept said it has been crazy this past month.

Having a training contract or not has nothing to do with the contract. When hiring is difficult,u will not have a training contract, as it makes it harder to get new pilots.

Two Chinese airlines just started hiring expat FOs...for the first time ever.
Emirates held a pilot hiring roadshow in Singapore...and ZERO pilots showed up.
HR has its work cut out for them.

I hear alot of you talking about how Atlas has to "try and keep people", and "they are going to be in trouble when people leave". I kinda find that funny. In my past life, all the company wanted was for us to leave! The company doesn'tt want a Southwest type of seniority list where nearly everyone is at or near the top of the pay scale for their seat. You want the most junior seniority list possible. Yes I agree someone leaving after the first year is going to cost Atlas money. I know accounting knows exactly the break even point on a new hire, which I am sure no one on this forum knows. Having people leave doesn't necessarily hurt the company after a point. If they could keep all the FO's at the lower end of the payscale that is a good thing for them.

Simple math which is better:
100 FO's at 6-8 year pay or 100 FO's at 3-4 year pay.

Now back to the topic. I had a buddy going down for an interview first week of August in Miami. He did the computer test first, then got the phone interview. This took about 1 week from the time he got the invite. Just a heads up, they expect you to take the test pretty soon from receiving the invite, so stay frosty on your aviation knowledge!

Woof
PS. I am hoping for more people to leave, help my chances of getting out of Anchorage and into a base where I get some Ebola flying!

Things here are not getting better, their getting worse. There's never been a time in my 3 years here that we've (the crewmembers) have had the upper hand. We have all the leverage right now, and nothing is changing. The guys that can get hired elsewhere that have been on the fence about leaving are all starting to submit apps elsewhere. I'm not implying that those that stay will not do everything they can for a better contract, just relaying info from all the FO's I talk to.
