Exactly. No mention of a training contract in the article. I'd be surprised if there wasn't one.

Regardless, this is the face of things to come at the legacies as well. I'd give it 5-10 years.

It would be nice not shelling out $100K and then living in poverty as a CFI/RJ driver for 5 years. Very appealing.

Might be appealing, but how safe is it going to be? When the aircraft doesn't do what they expect or does something they don't expect, or the auto flight system fails, the lack of flight experience/hands on experience will become apparent.

It depends on how much Jetblue wants to invest. The big European carriers have been doing this for decades with exemplary results.

How do European carriers' pilot-error accident rates compare to ours?

For every AF 447 there are 100,000+ incident-free flights flown by AF, BA, LH, KL, AZ, EI .....

True but the it's oft-discussed that all low time pilots are magenta-line wannabes who couldn't handle an emergency if they were watching it unfold from the cheap seats. I don't have an opinion either way but the AF accident will be held high by those folks as proof that ab initio is dangerous and never works.

I just dont understand why they are seeking this ab initio type program when there are PLENTY of experienced pilots who would love to work at JB.

I am one of those. 6000 TT, 2000ish PIC turbine...Stuck at a regional, waiting for a call from... anyone really. And then they come our with silly programs like this when there are thousands of pilots who meet their qualifications. I will never quite understand the thought process of airline human resource gurus.

It's easier to hire young, inexperienced pilots and get them to take a job for chump change. They're essentially regionalizing the majors.
