yeah photon is right... 600s have a lot of power....enough power ...usually when it comes to riding .. it isn't if you wreck.. it's when... I've already had mine on an F4i.. and it sucks... two of my friends my age have died on bikes. Sometimes it isn't you, but all the other people (specifically the old people who can't see). After I got married, I stopped riding.
Photon: A while ago I had the opportunity to ride a 996 at Daytona... not as fast as I would have liked but it was enough to take the bank (it is a very steep bank up close!!- 31 degrees doesn't sound steep but it is on a bike!) I'm not sure if they do it anymore, but I'll check into it and ask around... they might.. and it is def. worth it..... just got to remember when to slow down!! Roebling Road up in GA does the track days.. and it is a really fun course... maybe Sebring.. but I haven't been there.

Indeed the 600 has enough. 0-60 in 3 seconds, and 150 before you can start to think, you really don't need more power, at the very least not for your starter bike.
Hehe, riding on the speedway would be awesome to be sure . Getting your "kicks" on the roads gets illegal very fast

Be carefull with this statement, you could kill youself on a CFR50. My grandfather used to race desert when bikes has 2-3" of travel, and had a friend kill himself riding 30yds away to take a leak. He droped his bike, and hit his head just right. However, this was when they wore leathher helmets.
I would say at least don't go higher than a 600 on a starter bike. And do a MSF course first
Right on about doing the MSF course. Don't even need your own bike to do this 2 day course.
The Kawasaki 250 Ninja is an excellent choice. I've heard Kawasaki sells them literally by the boatload. Have a look at the February 2009 issue of RoadRacingWorld, two seperate articles which features the Ninja 250R, on the track.

1995 Yamaha YZF600R. It's been a good bike to me, even though I've been rough on it at times. About 43,000 miles, still going. It'll do anything the 1000cc bikes will, and the newer 600's are just sick also, but obviously not as fast. Never done a track-day with it, but might or might not've done similiar types of riding in TN/NC area's.
I also own a 02' 1100 V-star Classic, it's my ice-cream getter, and wife transporter! I like it and all, but still the sportiness of my other bike is what I prefer.
And I'll also attest to the 2 types of riders, those that have, and those that will! Be safe, and always wear a lid.

Yeah, I try not to do anything stupid on mine, but for sure I always wear my helmet, its just dumb not to...
And I know you don't even need a motor to kill yourself, heck, you could do it on a Huffy, but you have to not have much common sense to do so, or just be reckless in general, which I like to believe that I'm not..
I have a 2004 DR-Z 400 E. It as a street legal kit and supermoto wheels. It has been tuned up to about 47hp, it's louder than a Harley and its way too much fun considering it only weighs about 275 lbs. I need to put the dirt wheels back on before I get another ticket.
