Default weight training/ gym junkies ?

Any avid weight training flyers out there? Doesnt have to be bench pressing 300 lbs now.

It is a great hobby and more so a lifestyle too. In this aviation industry with the enormous demands, I couldnt cope if I wasnt able to workout in the gym.

I agree, really makes a layover much better and a great stress reliever in this industry.

Agreed jetjock. You a 757 captain ?? which airline. thats great! Even after a very long day, it is still worth it to get that workout in because it makes u feel that much better and able to sleep more restfully. My company had all their starting employees receive a thorough medical and it was scary how many in their early 30's already had to go on high cholesterol meds. Again, its not the job but what you do outside. So anyone wanting help with their training, I be happy to help out... I do personal training on the side just for the sake of helping others.

I don't want to sound like i'm bragging but I have been hitting the gym hard recently. I do 2 hours on the elliptical. My target goal has been to burn 1500 calories or a 1/2 pound a day. So far it has been working and I have lost 20 pounds over the past month and a half.

Then I'll eat an egg sandwich at home, or a chicken sandwich from subway. I try to stick to 6 meals a day but its tough, especially when your schedule changes. Anyways if you look at the time that I am posting this you can also infer that I am an early riser too.

Going to the gym was my favorite way to spend my time on reserve. I just kept my rollaboard packed in the car with a uniform on hangars and keep the phone on me. It beats sitting around all day just watching tv waiting for the phone to ring.

On furlough now its been nice to get back into a lifting routine 4x a week. I'm still young and want to keep my health up for later in life.

I've been back into it hard myself. I ONLY do 1 hour on the elliptical though. But I use HIIT for 15 mins of it. I do a full body workout three times per week. Thinking of going back to a split routine because sometimes my CNS can't handle the full body. What do you think Stealth? Split or Full body?

As Dangling said, once you become a bit intermediate, it is better to do 'splits' where you split up the muscle groups on certain days of the week with rest days in between.

Lear Flyer, yes split training is good. Thats good you listen to your body and dont over train. Those rest days do make a huge difference. Do note that rest days can be active rest where u do gentle cardio. It all depends on your ability to recover and how intense you are training. Your CNS will be really taxed from doing compound lifts such as squats, deadlifts .

Dangling , those are great stats. Keep up the great work. I do hope to compete in 1-2 years. I will imagine at 220, you will find it pretty tough to get in a cessna.

Its so amazing how the layman always ask " how much do you bench" when i think the best test of strength is indeed the deadlift.

Mon Thai boxing

Tur shoulder, chest

wen Thai boxing

Thu back, biceps

fri Thai boxing

You notes I did not write legs, it is because when you do Thai you do not need it.

Muscle is more anabolic so the more you build the better you become at burning fat as compared to doing too much cardio like all the threadmil bunnies. Im not bashing it. Aerobic activity is extremely important for the health of the cardiovascular system.

Thumbs up

Dangling, thats some really great goals. I never did look at the big 3 as a cummulative goal when you combine all those lifts to give a figure of 2000. Thats alot of wieght but you can get there. I usually go by how much times my body weight but an all rounded figure for all 3 is good... Right now, Im at about 1000 so half way there.

You mention a valid point. I saw two pilots on our DASH 8 fleet who both can easily pass for Santa Claus with their tummy. Quite a few younger pilots I know are heavy drinkers and smokers on their off time. I just dont know how that lifestyle doesnt catch up with them.
