I have not shot my sks in a long time. I just got back from the range shooting the cap and ball revolver. Lots of fun. Very labor intensive with the loading and after cleaning. Very dirt cheap because I shoot about 6 balls every ten minutes. Would like to go rabbit hunting with blackpowder pistol. Living in the city sucks sometimes.

Those are pretty cool. My dad has 5 of them. From the long infantry version, to the Cossack carbine, to a sniper version. The sniper model is cool, original scope.

He also bought an RPK a long time ago. Thats a fun gun also. Load the drum up all the way and try to fire it standing up, ehhhhh, not too easy with the long barrel and bipods attached to the end.

As far as black power goes, I have a .58 Zouave. Haven't shot it in a while. But it's fun when you do.

On the 4th of July me and my brother (who has one also) would put a load of power down the barrel with no ball, put a cap on, point it at the sky and fire. Nice big flash-boom.

I've got two .54cal TC Firehawk inlines, and a .50 CVA inline, all for deer. Yes, I have WAY too many muzzleloaders but they're all secondhand and the .54 is a barely supported caliber in my neck of the woods (KY/IN).

High-priced and scarce ammo getting you down? Start reloading. I do 9mm, 40SW, 38SW, 223, 22-250, 243, 260, 270, and 30-06. Its relaxing and you can shoot MUCH more for your dollars vs. buying even cheap plinking ammo...and my 260 and 30-06 whitetail loads are three shots through the same hole at 100yds with Nosler Ballistic Tips, loaded for less than $0.50/rd.

Your right I need to start reloading. I don't have anything for loading, how much is start-up would you guess for the basics plus a few dies? First I need the space.

Lucky man, i have both a m91/30and m44, id like to make my m91/30 a "sniper" one but that damn scope and mount is 200+ and he bolt is rare, the combo is 400-480 in us but in Canada its 800-1000 as i saw at a gun store in Toronto a few weeks ago. Feel sorry for those poor bastards.

It took a while for my dad to get all the various models. I'd say about ten years worth. But he really wasn't that aggressive about it. I know one of them he picked up was "sportorized" and he went and got an original stock for it.

As far as the sniper model goes, yeah, it is rare to get one with original scope and bolt. I remember when he picked it up at a gun show he paid WAY MORE than what you'd pay for an ordinary Mosin-Nagant. Whenever he mentions he has one, guys always ask right away "how much you want for the bolt". I like the 3 point style sight that it has.

There are a couple things my dad regrets when it comes to his collection;

1. He wishes he would have bought and SVD back in the mid 80's. A no crap, for real SVD. Not this "post ban" crap you have now. All my dads's SKS and AK's are pre ban types with appropriate spikes/bayonets on them, etc. As well as the corresponding original cleaning kit in the stock that came with them.

2. When he was a teenager in the 50's, there was a hardware store by where he grew up. The guy running it had a German MP44 he was trying to sell for like $20. At the time, my dad never had the money.

How cool would it be to have one of those? Not that you could find ammo for it, but it would be cool to have one. I thought I saw somewhere that they could be re chambered to shoot 7.62X39.

Funny you mention this. My dad has been reloading since I was in grade school. When he first started buying his Ak's and SKS's all you could really get for brass ammo had Berdan primers. What a royal pita it was to reload those. Had to de prime them by hand with a special tool, couldn't use the press to punch it out. It was that or steel casings. Those aren't so good on the dyes you know.
