Everyone needs to stop crying......... the economy blows, these cowards that come on here and brag how they left the 121 world and have become so successful, and their lives are so glorious are kidding themselves. If thier life was soooooo wonderful they would be out enjoying it, not trolling around on here. They left the 121 world because they either couldn't hack the struggle of it, or had kids that needed to be fed, but don't let them fool you, they may like the money but I guarantee you that they look in the mirror and see a failure staring back at them. When life gets tough, dammit, do something about it, network work a side job, don't just blame one industry for potentially ruining your life. I respect SkyHigh and Tony Montanas views, but they sound like they want all of us to feel miserable because they quit something that they probably loved. Gentleman, dont post your BS about how this industry has almost ruined your life, its annoying, pathetic, and ridiculous.

There is a good chance I may get furloughed in the fall, but so be it, Ill do something else, and if I get recalled I will probably go back, but we all decided to get involved in this industry so blame yourselves, not the industry. God this country has become a nation of whiners.......

........
filled with people who sue 80 year old grandma's for rear ending them, to get a free pass at a multimillion dollar lawsuit
........
and people who knowingly stepped into career, fully aware that it couldn't stay that way
........
and people who never blame themselves, it's always someone elses fault
........
and people who hope for $100 oil again, so they can keep ignoring that the guys where right in 1920, when they predicted that Oil would be the destroyer, that would sink the American dream. It's here. Millions feel it

Compare salaries, go ahead!
Who's got the bigger thing?
Is being reduced to nothing but money and prestige really all that matters?

Thats so sad!

I think "failure" is a bit harsh, but if you quit, like I did, you may end up regreting it in a few years like I do.

If you want to quit, then quit. Stop posting on this board, JC, etc., and completely disconnect yourself from aviation. Don't go to any FBO's "just to look", and don't look up when you see an airplane flying overhead. Try it. I dare you! You can't do it.

You sound like a young man. When skyhigh and I "stepped" into this career, we were NOT fully aware that it couldn't stay "this way". Based on his posts, I think we are around the same age (I'm mid 30's), and there was a little more going on back then. So we stepped into this career having no idea it was going to turn out this way. Heck, Eastern was still around when I got into it! to the above poster(s) who said we can't hack it, or are quitters, i'd like to know your present situations. Such as living in base with your mom, or are not gone for more than 4 days in a row.

This forum is for folks who found peace our lives by trying something else in life. This forum is for folks who want a normal lifestyle again, and have already tried the flying thing for YEARS. If you don't like what we are saying, then go to jetcareers.com and drink the Koolaid. I still love flying, and think about it everyday. heck, I would even go back if it was in my town. Haven't found that yet though.

so you mean this forum is for people who have found peace in their lives by walking away from the thing?
Why is it then, that this forum is not to be found if you type or click on these links?

Maybe you meant me, with the younger man? Who tells you I'm a man, and not a (wo)man? I don't know.
Lets just say I have seen 3 seven year cycles of jobs and no jobs, careers and no careers, happy flying and destroyed dreams, ATP's driving buses, and FA's being recalled to go fly. I admit, this cycle is a hard one, and unless the "pilots guild" really becomes a reality, and kids are beaten up for taking a 20K job on the right seat, we would have a chance to recover.
Passengers must pay for this, and Passengers like their flat screen TV's, so good luck! The embarrassing part of all this is - that people with no backbones are fostered nowadays, nobody looks out for them, not the 59 year old captain on the left seat, who knows that his 21 year old F/O is starving, and not the 21 year old F/O that sits on the right seat and watches the old dog loose his teeth and once enjoyed power. In fact, the young kids sit there and hope the old fart will drop out soon, so they get a better seniority.
Me, Me, Me! First!!! Nobody cares for tomorrow.

Thanks for pointing jetcareers out... I didn't know of that one yet - yippee, more Koolaid! I also did not know that ATP has undisclosed weight limits on their prospective "customers"... I can't imagine hiring a pilot that weighs 300 pounds... holy cow, thats some weight to carry around?
Do the passengers get a little trailer or is that the reason some pax is asked to travel in the rear lavatory?

I don't know if CHOOSINg to leave a ****ty job is the same as not being able to "hack the struggle of it."
I'm not denying that the thought has passed through my mind too... "if I left now, am I a failure or am I being proactive?"
It's a fine line, but in the end I think whether or not your feel like a failure has more to do with ego than anything else.
People change, situations change, priorities change, feelings and beliefs change. If you no longer felt the same about this job as you did before you became a pilot.. and leave it on your own accord, because you know there are better things for you out there..how is that considered failure? It's not just this industry.. most people have changed careers throughout their lives. Some are happier for it, and how can you call them for a failure for that? I guarantee YOU that there are a few thousands legacy pilots out there that ended up sticking it out and are and have been extremely unhappy. (the majority of these being US Air guys. ) according to you logic.. would you call them successful because they were persistent and stuck with it? even though they are unhappy as hell?

Live with my mom?, no I live with my G/F, who makes more then you (because you want to compare salaries), and I bust my a$$ to make sure I have enough money to pay my car, student loans, and a plethora of other bills. I am not drinking the Kool-Aid, I know what kind of trouble the industry is in, but I would rather suffer in the 121 world, then pretend like I am happy outside of it
