Default Nurse anesthetist

Looks like a great career for someone looking for an alternative, who is interested in the medical field, but doesn't necessarily want to go to medical school. Starting salaries are well into the six figures, as high as $160-180K, with bonuses, and potential to make much more with overtime. I've never thought of the medical field as something I'd be interested in, but this seems like it may be a good career. I'm actually looking into it.

Well continue to look into it but you should know that it is very competitive to get accepted into a program. Plus, you will find that you have to be a R.N. for so many years in the areas of critical care. ie ICU, CCU, E.R. ect. Great profession but the nursing before hand might be a little tough to get use to. Its the only job that as a college graduate you still have to wipe someone's ass on a regular basis.

Good luck with the search.

I doubt I'll do it. Just something I was researching. Thought I'd pass it along to anyone in here interested in an alternative career choice.

Why don't you look into being a P.A. (Physician Assistant), money's about the same and no need to be a R.N. first.

On a side note-we have one agency R.N. on staff with our hospital who does occasionally wipe someones ass-and drives home after work in a Turbo Carrera.

All about perspective fellows.

Im not saying that there is anything wrong with it, just that its a fact. My ex wife made great money as a traveling nurse and yet wiped many asses.

P.A is also a great profession, however, you will need a lot of science classes before excepted into any program. Most people that went into aviation will not have such classes. I for one do because I was trying to get into PA school before this pilot idea popped into my head. Looking at them now, it seems that most schools are now Masters programs and are even harder to get accepted into. I wish I would have stuck with it.

Tony, what do you do now?

hah I was actually in school to be a CRNA, but I gave it up to fly... i figured the view would be quite a bit better than an OR everyday.

Hey mcartier713 , how far did you get along the way of becoming a CRNA? Did you at least get your BSN? (bachelors of science in nursing for those who don’t know)

Since you made the decision, how is it working out for you? I’m very curious as I’m currently working on my second bachelors in BSN, I should be done in a year.

Cargo-

Whatever you do-STICK WITH IT!!! You'll be thanking yourself for years to come. Later on, if you want to fly, you can do both, cause you'll have a great second income.

Smart guy-BRAVO!
