Default Flying

I loved flying and miss it everyday but hated what it did to my life. If we all could make it to a dream job while still young enough to be able to endure the trials of low seniority then this career would have been alright.

Sky....I really believe that ALL things in life happen for a reason...... life is not always fair.... it is what it is, and we are challenged to make what we can from it. Things happened in your life that put you where you are today.... and I believe by all accounts you are fine with that... who knows what the future will bring to you...

Embrace life, take what she gives you and make the very best of it. That is what we should all do with our lives. Many people love to fly.... but they dont love the LIFESTYLE. I have been telling people for more than a decade that its a LIFESTYLE, many people do well with it...many dont. Really, its not unlike many other professions.

You know Sky.... I said in 94 I would never go back...... circumstances changed... I changed... My life changed on 29 Aug 2005..... life is short... embrace it...... for many aviation is their life... for others its just not a good fit. good luck to all.

Hey man I am down with all that however I believe that aviation has changed over the last 20 years. It is not a wise place to invest oneself anymore. The costs outweigh the benefits for most.

Life is too short to blow it. People need the facts. It is a "LIFESTYLE" and so is joining the Hells Angels. Neither would suit most people who are seeking a normal middle class lifestyle. I think that most people are looking at an aviation career as a normal profession and do not know what they are getting into.

Circumstances do change-mine changed about as drastically as it could have. I mean, before, I wouldn't go to a Doctor unless a bone was sticking out or blood was gushing, and now I am a Doctor.

Life is strange and wonderful.. I just had greater expectations than came to pass concerning my aviation career.

Tony, may I ask how old you were when you made the switch from flying for Eagle (I think you said) to deciding to go to med school?

You are absolutely right! People do need the facts. Fact is that some like their job, some (like you and many others) don’t. Play it fair sky, fifty-fifty, give both sides of the equation if you are so keen on exposing the facts.

My side doesn't get much of a chance to present its view point. Therefore I have to work double time.

Sky -

I've kept off this thread with comments until now - but you know the above is NOT true.
99% of the other people on this forum give time to BOTH sides of the story. YOU and a few others give 110% effort to the negativity.
If there are ANY people on the forum who give 100% to the bright and sunnt side 100% of the time then feel free to point them out.

What I meant was that this forum is largely populated by people who are heavily weighted to the up side of aviation. Flying Magazine, AOPA and the rest are also in the business of selling the idea of being an airline pilot to the general public. Pilot wannabes are working hard to talk themselves into blowing a fortune on a dream that most likely will not suit them.

Where else can prospective pilots go to find the rest of the story? The fantasy is much more fun than the reality. Usually when pilots figure out that they have been had they drop off the radar let their medicals lapse and you never hear from them again. They do not stick around and rub more salt into the wound by sharing their experiences. Usually the only reminder of their lapse in judgment is the loan payment that they continue to make every month. I am hugely outnumbered here and in the rest of the world. I do not have my own magazine, newsletter or club.

From my perspective most here are too close to the issue to see the truth. They are too heavily invested in aviation and can not afford an accurate view of the situation. I do not think that I am overly negative. It is just that the ideas I project are naturally alarming since they do not match with the concepts that people are trying hard to sell themselves and others on. I do not feel that the down side is given enough here or elsewhere.
