Default Thr Dream

I miss the dream more than the job. Frequently I have a recurring nightmare that my former regional discovers that by a clerical error I have 6 more months left on my training contract to do. In the nightmare I have to leave my comfortable life and go back to working as an airline pilot again.

Sky,

Relax! If that were to happen, you would have no trouble recruiting a volunteer to take your place. Disgruntled postal workers would compete with cubicle slaves and the unemployed for your attention. The chosen impostor would probably not look like you or have your flying ability, but if what you say about "button-pushing automatons" is correct, the airline would ask no questions and hand him a banana.

I miss the airplane and the paycheck. Once I find another job, I'm hoping to miss the paycheck less.

Been out since July 08. I miss the first 15 minutes after wheels up, and the last 15 minutes before touchdown. Also, I worked with some great people. Other than those, I honestly don't miss it.

Was thirty years in it and now eighteen plus out. Haven't missed it yet!

Those of you who don't miss it, what are y'all doing now? I gotta find me some way to make a living.

The good thing about most flying careers is that it usually doesn't take much to replace the income. The other day I noticed a job listing in the local news paper for a dump worker. The job essentially entailed managing a pile of compost and it paid more than what most regional captains make. It came with a full benefits package including retirement and lots of vacation. A GED and a clean drug test were the biggest requirements for the job.

It constantly amazes me what people make outside of aviation.

Stretch,
Love the avatar. I just Captained my last 8 flight (displaced) just over 2 weeks ago, started MD-11 school. I miss the 8 already <bfg>
A real flying airplane the 8 is.....sighh...
Too stay on thread.. I would miss it if I didn't fly professionally, but I have the disease bad. Have buds who see it as only a paycheck and when senior to me I always encourage them to take compost waste management jobs, etc <g>
