Default The problem

The problem is that those who made it do not want to think that it was an advantage that was the difference. They want to believe that merit, effort and a superior intellect were the reasons.

To the guys who did not make it they know they tried hard enough, are smart enough and were worthy of the job so it must have been something else.

Newbies who are placing their faith in the profession do not want to believe that fate, whimsy or social status could be the reason some advance over others. They need to feel that they have a chance if they just try hard enough.

The only people I know that didn't make it, quit. Military not withstanding....

Fate only applies to those not blessed with the genetics. Social standing? I had friends in college from dirt poor southern families that are airline captains now. Quit making excuses for yourself. The going got hard, you took the easy road. You continue to visit this board as therapy trying to convince yourself all the reasons that it isn't your fault. OWS must love you.

Though I do think that you have a terrible attitude which probably shined through at interviews and you certainly THOUGHT that you deserved everything under the sun; I can put your mind to rest Sky that I don't have a shred of what you call "survivor's guilt" about me having an EXTREMELY satisfying military career and a (so far) fun, challenging, mission oriented satisfying, and successful civilian aviation career. I worked very hard and endured many sacrifices during my time from start to present.
You are welcome to any kind of guilt or wanting that you are feeling, but as usual you are just simply whizzing in the wind when you try and transfer your feelings to me.

Hoss - Oh! Shuttle Commander / Mission Specialist. Now those positions I've geared of on the crew

My attitude was awesome through my 20's and 30's. I was able to get every job I was offered an interview for except the one that really mattered. My current disposition regarding the career was a learned behavior that came from decades of unjust defeat.

I once knew a man named bullfrog. Was a good man. Good confused man. You see...He was my neighbor. An airline pilot who wished he was home with his family. You see..As we were walking hand and hand one day, he uttered to me how he wished he had just become a plumber. A fireman perhaps. Orchestra Conductor? My neighbor later passed on that summer alone, with his fifth wife by his side. I'll never forget him.

The lesson we can ALL learn from that airline pilot is priceless. I now watch over his children. I'm trying to convince his boy not to enter into this greed driven industry. But little Tucker....He has his own plans.

**How's that for a Sky High impersonation?** My favorite part of your postings, Sky is that you must have a title for each one. This one, my friend, is called bullfrog.

I was there from my teens through my late 30's. In the end I have a family to support. At some point it becomes foolish to keep banging your head against the wall. Had I persisted I could have been flying for another start up or been a regional captain by now but that was not my goal either. My goal was to enjoy the fruits of a career as a legacy airline pilot and all of the wages and benefits therein. Of my peers who have held on they are not seeing a better future for themselves either.

It all boils down to what you value the most. It is not worth it to me to make it to the left seat of a transport category merely for the experience.

Unjust. I love it. Like you were entitled to that job.

Good for you, stop trying to crap on those that are trying to get there, or hating the ones that did. You tried, your plan failed, you quit... Move on and GET OVER IT.

Lear,

An interesting piece but I don't get it. I am sure there is a lesson in there someplace though.

All I am saying is that somewhere in the works is some mystical fairy dust that plucks some out of the screaming masses and not others.
Skyhigh,

Listen up boy! In the post just above this I gave you the recipe for the magic fairy dust. And what did you do with it? You crumpled it up and wiped your butt with it, as usual.

Of course all the magic fairy dust in the world isn't going to work unless there is actually some hiring going on. Which for the past ten years has been almost completely flat. Mystery solved.
