When I got the call a few weeks ago to set up the video conference she said they were getting them done in anticipation of openings and to speed up the process by it being done when they got requests. She asked on that call which locations I'd be willing to accept. Since I only gave a few locations I guess that will limit me. Been about a week and a half since the interview so just waiting now to see if I get a call to fly the PA44.

We'll see.

My old FLM was cool with OT, new one is the same. I had a pay period that had a double-fatality and a previously planned airshow, and ended up with 30 hours of OT. The manager wasn't happy and made the FLM ask me to 'adjust my work week'. The FLM told me 'try if you can, but I'm not gonna insist'.

At this point, my schedule is so damned full that (and I'm new enough that I stupidly try to offer some customer service to those i come in contact with), I just do what is needed and put in for the OT.

I'm relatively new, and didn't have any prior credit, so annual leave accrues slowly. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the upcoming 'comp time' versus OT. My wife works during the week, so weekends are important to me (one of the reasons I joined the agency). My feeling is if I'm going to work a weekend there ought to be some incentive (OT or comp time I can use for leave).

Not sure I answered the question....

You did.

Some of the former ASis I worked with told me that if they were scheduled for an airshow that they had been asked to adjust their weekly work schedule. I thought that was wrong. You've got enough busy paperwork to fill up the regular work week and then if you have to monitor an airshow it ought to be on OT (and volunteer first and foremost - then go down the OT list if no one ponies up)

Just remember - if your PASS agreement is the same as ours - that they can not force you to take comp time. It is YOUR choice - money or time. Time is more important to a few in our office because like you they are hurting for the leave. I on the other hand take the OT because I have to try and use all of my 6 hrs/pay period on an annual basis - I don't want more time to have to burn off.

Thanks for the clarification.

What happens to an ASI who doesn't pass a Class 2 medical?

Not sure there is a easy, pat answer. We had a guy who had an issue and they kept him around for two years. He just retired.

On the medical requirement, there are many ASI jobs (Region/HQ) that do not require a medical at all. Most ASI's have a union and contract and it specifies what remedies an ASI has in case he/she loses their medical. It's very good peace of mind to still have a job if one loses a medical...

On the OT issue, if an ASI is a GS-13 or below, they are FLSA Non-Exempt, meaning OT must be given if you go over 40hrs in a work week. There was a HUGE union-agency settlement over this about two years ago on this issue. If the extra work time is NOT known in advance of the start of the work week, (i.e. Fatal accident investigation) then payng OT is mandatory when you go over 40hours in the work week.

If an ASI is GS-14 or above, they are FLSA Exempt, which essentially means that Comp Time can be taken instead of OT.

In the ASI air carrier side, the application says 1500 total time and doesn't specify whether or not that is in an aircraft with a max takeoff weight of 12500lbs, however going on the FAA website it says to be an ASI on air carrier operations they require a minimum of 1500 hours in an airplane with max takeoff weight of 12500 not just total time like the application implies. What's everyone's take on this?

Anybody have the forecast on future hiring in the years to come? I'll be leaving active duty in about 18 months and curious as to how hiring looked. I've been offered a lucrative contracting gig I'd like to take for a year or so after my active duty time and wanted to know if you guys thought that was smart or if I should try to get hired earlier. Also, currently sitting with ATP AMEL, Comm and INST Rotary Wing, Comm ASEL, ASES, and AMES with military safety officer formal training, CFI, CFII, MEI, MEII, IGI, AGI and will be adding glider and sUAS soon. Would these be competitive for the future if the hiring window starts to close? Most of my time is in A/C greater than 12500. Typed in BE-200, 300, 400, MU-300, S-70 (Mostly modified King Airs with Grossweights at 16500 and couple hundred Beechjet).

Probably overly anxious but leaving my current job has me pondering all these avenues that pop up. No real desire in living out of a suitcase anymore. Enjoy family time. Will take a lesser salary for greater quality of life. On that note, what can one expect promotions wise on the payscale and how does MIL buyback time work? I'd be buying back about 8 years. Anyone know if getting a FSDO job in California (San Diego), Hawaii, or Colorado area is likely?

Once again thanks for the input, sorry for the ramblings. Newborn has me up all night, this post probably sounds like a scattered manifesto.

Are you considering GA OPS? If so, do you have a pulse and have the app completed? If so, you are competitive. All kidding aside...literally like 20 apps on file nationwide.
