I've met a few of these guys and thought it was a pretty good gig.

I recently learned of these positions from a former ASI who now works in my office - if these are the FAA Special Agents that he has mentioned. It sounds like they could do some interesting work.

Yes they do

If my memory serves me correctly they used to be the original Sky Marshals (directed under the FAA).

One of the benefits of this current position is that it doesn't have the age requirement, (EOD on or before age 37).

So it looks like on the current announcement the office I interviewed for has not yet made any selections (according to Regional HR). The interview was 10 weeks ago ( which was "recent" according to the specialist). Any thoughts on the selection timeframe and what the hold up could be? Also heard they should be filling the vacancy "ASAP" as the end of the fiscal yea is approaching. Thoughts?

Good luck to all that are still waiting. Since we are in the last month of FY15, I predict the flood gates will open soon. Offices will need to Hurry up and spend the money before the end of the year... It really depends on whiich office an applicant has named on their apps and how short staffed those offices are. If you are not sure, it would not hurt to call around and ask to speak to a FLM or Mgr.

Here is how the process went for me with the approximate dates that I could remember.

4/30 - application submitted
6/9 - application referred
7/15 - interview
8/5 - conditional offer
9/3 - I will be conducting my flight check.

The process takes a while and seems to differ from office to office.

If anyone has any Intel on the check ride it would be greatly appreciated. They give you a bunch of information once your flight check is scheduled to include the flight profiles. Hope this helps.

After not hearing anything for three weeks after my interview I called the FLM for the FSDO that I applied with on a Friday and had a good talk. The following Tuesday I had an offer.

Mine was completed before I took my flight check. I received the firm offer the same day as the flight check with a start date one week later.
