Beg to differ, it's a massive windfall for AWA pilots. They now get the benefit of 2000 east retirements in the next 7 years and the guys who have been junior at USAirways for so long get nothing for their patience and hard work for so many years. There should have been fences.

There are fences and with age 65 I don't think we will see that many retirements.

Exactly. Those of you that don't get it are young. Talk to me when you have 20 years in and end up on the street.

There are fences. The East widebodies are protected for 4 years or age 65 change. What does that have to do with the furloughees? Why should they not be stapled?

I get it. Alpa merger policy states: A. preserve jobs B. No windfalls C. Maintain same or better pay D. Maintain same or better status E. Preserve career expectations. No mention of "date of hire" anywhere in the policy.

The top 500 slots went to East guys because of their widebodies AND there is a fence. They were treated fair. Ending up on the street is the luck of the draw. AWA guys should not have to pay for AAA guy's tough luck. Life is not fair. ALPA merger policy was followed.

I'm not so sure. I was in PHL in 2004...everybody was pretty sure that AAA was gonna liquidate, pilots included. My cousin (19 year FO) started an outside business to prepare for that. When all those rampers called in sick on Xmas...that was reeeeeal bad...

It's a tough call either though...no way to please everyone.

It will be a MISERABLE MESSY ASS place to work for a long time to come. That is a fact of life. If I were seeking a job at the majors I think this would be the LAST CHOICE.

No. As I've already demonstrated, Junior AWA FOs got a windfall. In 3-5 years they will be in the top 30% of the seniority list.

That said, the problem of seniority merger is a tough one.

I hope you're correct, but I don't see it. The way I run the numbers (65 and no growth AC) I might be off reserve in 3 yrs.
