It's possible. But you will need significant internal recommendations.

I have been at UAL as a F/A for over 10 years.....I don't know of one person currently as an F/O or CPT that does NOT have a 4-yr degree......Now that doesn't mean there aren't any.........I'm sure some were hired with major internal recommendations....I just don't know of any......hope this helps.....

And to think on a positive side, if you do get one, it will NEVER hurt you and can only HELP you.

If you already know you are going to the airlines for the rest of your life, get it in something easy like underwater basketweaving. Keep your student loans as low as possible by majoring in something that takes in 3 or 4 years tops. I went to engineering school for 6 years, and have a $45k note to pay down as a result. If I had majored in underwater basketweaving like other kids it would be way less. I agree with Technica you can get your flight ratings for peanuts of you work at it like he did. I got most of mine that way, and owe nothing on them now.

dude, its 3-4 years, if you want it, the airlines that is, then go get it! So, you'll be 40-41, with 5K tt, 2K pic turbine, and 2 type ratings + whatever you build in the next four years! I think you have the hard part down, geting quality time, I'm on the other side, got a degree but have barely started flying . . . In my graduating class there was a couple that were a couple in their 80s, your never too old to go. . . it comes down to how bad do you want it, its very doable

I don't have a 4 yr degree and got on at JB with some internal help but no one in leadership. Just run of the mill line guys I worked with throughout my career.

IT IS POSSIBLE!!! It's up to you. Network, build 'good' time and apply yourself. It can work out without the degree.

ce650,
Continental does not require a 4 year degree and they are hiring like crazy right now. The real question is do you want to be 42 and have the degree, or just be 42? You are going to be older either way and with a little extra work you open up your opportunities to a whole other level. Why limit your possible employment opportunites when the degree is totally within your reach? I echo the other people here that say their degrees are in something completely unrelated to flying. Mine is History. I never use it but it has helped me to get all my interviews. I would encourage you to find a school for the fall that will work with your schedule and start on your way to any four year degree.
