For those of you with logbook pro I have a few questions
1 do you still keep a paper copy
2 ifyou've interviewed did you bring your print out from logbook pro and if so did the interviewers like it or dislike it.
3 during the interview did you bring both or just your logbook pro copy.

3. I brought my actual logbooks only. I have heard that some companies won't accept Logbook pro unless its bound? (Whether that means in a spiral bind like a pro service at Kinko's or a 3-ring job you do yourself, I'm not sure)

Keep in kind, I'm a bit "old school", so I still write it all out - To be honest I don't know any pilots personally who use logbook pro as there single logbook source? Maybe some others can shed some more light.

I still keep a paper log but only for things like required signoffs for IFR currency or whatever.

Took the printout to UAL. Interviewer expressed how easy it was to find stuff. I'm planning on printing twice a year, but I might cut that down now that I think I've settled down. Can't imagine any need for signatures in my log anymore.

I printed mine out and took it to the interview, no problems. I did have it in one of their logbooks so it looked good.

1. Yes, printed out from Logbook Pro
2.Brought the printed logbook and they (DAL) liked it. Kinko and binders.com is lot cheaper and with a little bit of creativity also look a whole lot better.
3. Just the printout was shown, had the originals as backup.

Just make sure you ALWAYS keep a somewhat current backup stored away from home (CD at your moms house, server, USB stick, harddrive at parents....)as well as ALWAYS make backups to your USB stick that you ALWAYS carry with you. Just makes life easier... I use logbook pro combined with APDL as my only source, no more writing logbooks and always stay current and legal.

Thanks for the help everyone. I've already printed everything out and had it bound so that it looks nice but now that I'm starting to apply to a few different places I was worried that I might have to go back and redo a few years.

FlyingViking - just curious - I've been using Logbook Pro for awhile. With regards to APDL - do you use it on a PDA or Laptop while you are on the road. Thinking about doing that, but not sure what to use (hardware wise) thanks

Answer Viking first:

1) I keep a paper copy (of Logbook Pro) in a fireproof safe along with traditional logbooks.
***If you want to make records of your old paper logbooks and don't feel like paying big $$$ to have them flattened and photocopied then get a good digital camera and take closeups of each page in macro mode and save the images. It's better than nothing.
***Another way to backup your Logbook Pro files in case you can't burn discs or store on external drives is email the file to a free mail account like Gmail or Hotmail and save it in the Drafts or Saved Emails file. It stays there as long as you keep the account active. They give you loads of space.
I have been using both Logbook Pro and APDL for a long time on PDA's.

2) UAL had no problem with the printout of LB Pro.
3) I brought traditional logbooks for old stuff and just a printout of LB Pro for later stuff and UAL had no issue.

Answer to bigfatdaddy:

As previously stated I have been using LB Pro and APDL for awhile and here is the big catch with APDL...it does not backload your logbook info, so in other words whatever info you put into APDL on your PDA is what you will have there. If you sync an APDL equipped PDA with LB Pro it's only looking to take info from the PDA to LB Pro not put anything on the PDA from LB Pro. That sucks because the functionality of APDL is based on history of data and here's another catch...if you have to hard reset that PDA (Palm Treo's especially) you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING on the PDA and start over. They may have changed this and I wish they would but for now thats how it is I think.

Also...if you buy APDL for Palm OS (operating system) and buy a PDA with a Windows OS then you have to buy APDL all over again...so pick an OS for your PDA and stick with it!

In the end after buying all the gear from Logbook Pro I found really all I needed was Logbook Pro Professional (allows you to see where you are in relation to FAR 121 and 135 limits). APDL was useful for pay calulations but not being able to backload data and having to start over after a hard reset really limited the funcionality for me. I found I would be checking things on my laptop after syncing to and not really using APDL that much.

There is also available the Logbook Pro Pocket PC Companion which is nothing more than an interface with LB Pro on your PDA. It's different from APDL in that it is just a collection and reporting program on your PDA, nothing more. If you have LB Pro Professional then you should get this because you can walk with all your FAR 121/135 limitations (updated after syncing) and easily enter flights and sync when you get back to your computer.

Anyway if I am wrong about any of this then please correct me but really LB Pro Professional and the Pocket PC (Windows) Companion is all I really needed.
