Not according to Forbes..........

(CNN) -- Forbes' list of the world's wealthy has named Warren Buffett the richest person on the planet, surpassing his friend and philanthropic partner Bill Gates who had held the title for 13 consecutive years.

American investor Warren Buffett has been named world's richest person.

The American investor and philanthropist is worth an estimated $62 billion, up $10 billion from a year ago thanks to surging prices of Berkshire Hathaway stock, according to Forbes magazine's annual ranking of the world's billionaires.

Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, is now ranked as the world's third richest person. At $58 billion, his net worth is up $2 billion from a year ago. Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu was named the world's second richest man, with a net worth of around $60 billion, up $11 billion since last March.

For the first time, Forbes' rich list named more than 1,000 billionaires from around the world, with 226 newcomers. The total net worth of the group is $4.4 trillion, up $900 billion from 2007. Watch who's up and who's down »

This year's survey finds an increasing number of the world's richest coming from emerging markets, including China, India and Russia.

Two years ago, 10 of the top 20 billionaires were from the United States. This year, there are only four. India is now home to four of the 10 richest people in the world, the highest number for a single country.

This is just a little better than a Ouija board. It has been pretty close the last six months. Although it has been changing rapidly since oil hit $115.

How about if we started riots like other nations do when costs get out of control...or how about if we just went on strike for 3 days to protest something we think is unfair, like the Europeans do. If EVERYONE in the U.S. (with the possible exception of doctors, nurses, police, firemen, and EMT/ambulance drivers) went on strike for 3 days, don't you think the govt. would take notice and do something? Even if the govt. didn't do anything, we'd save a ton of gas by not going to work/working, therefore, the whole supply and demand theory would be thrown off kilter since there would be no demand. It would only work if EVERYONE didn't go to work, heck, no company can fire ALL their employees.

I know most of you know this but the U.S. is the 45th most expensive place to buy gas (out of around 120 countries surveyed). The top 10 were almost all European nations. I can vouch for it, I was in France, Germany, Italy last week and gas is $9/gallon in all 3 countries, diesel was still around $8.50. Think for a moment if gas were $9/gallon here, would that cause anybody some issues? Sorry for the rant...

The US economy would flat out collapse at $9/gal...you would see a depression. If oil gets to $200/bbl and stays there for more than a quarter...we will sink into a depression.

thank god a politician is actually trying to do something to help out. the gas tax holiday is a nice idea untill the roads we drive on start falling apart. Tax breaks for electric and hybrid cars doesnt do any one any good. The problem is supply (and speculators). If the supply can be brought up then the price will go down.

The the enviro whack jobs who have blocked drilling off of Florida and the east coast and California and in other so called sensitive areas will need to be "whacked" because thats where alot of our possible known reserves are.

very true...for now...until the Chinese use their drilling deal with Cuba to drain those Gulf oil reserves for themselves and the Russians figure out some way to tap the reserves in Alaska...they've already claimed the sea underneath the North Pole for just that reason.

If we don't utilize our natural resources, some unfriendly country will...and use them against us.
