I'm not a Prater fan, but he's not repsonsible for all the industry's problems.
He is diffenetly responsible for leading the path for age change we he took office.

Wrong. ALPA had NOTHING to do with age change. ALPA was against it. The government said it is changing. ALPA said we will do whatever we can to protect our pilots. The government changed it. ALPA had no choice in it.

Prater's personal views for or against it don't matter. ALPA's views didn't matter either; it is government rule change.

To keep matters clear; I was against age 65. I'm young and junior.

Otto. For what's it's worth, I usually read your posts and agree. I am in the same boat as you...young and junior. However, ALPA did take a poll on the subject of age 65. 75% of us said NO. ALPA national then said we need to "support" it so we have a say in the implementation. I think that was bull****. I think the age might have gone through anyway, but not nearly as fast if the largest airline union in the world didn't support it. When the senators went to vote they saw the support of ALPA. Not our poll. BTW. You notice they didn't take a real vote to see if we should support it. Just a poll. I am not a union hater, nor am I a huge proponent. I think the union is extremely political and has too much opportunity for corruption. I also think it is only as demanding as the pilots in it. Talk to you later.

Dead WRONG!!!! Sorry to break the news to you.

This issue of age 65 change in Dec. 07, was DEAD, stuck in the Transportation Spending Bill, which was going Nowhere, because of Dem/Rep partisian differences. DEAD in the Water.

Enter alpa, who got Sen. Ted Stevens (and his counterpart in the House) to remove the provision from the Transportation Spending Bill and have it put before the Senate (and then the House), as a separate independent Bill/issue. That was the 'only' way that it passed; as the Transportation Authorization Bill Never was going to pass (and still hasn't been). And, if not passed by the time congress ended its term in Dec. would have been Dead, and 're-introduced' in the new session and probably would have been difficult in an election year, as almost nothing get passed.

BLAME PRATER AND alpa, as maybe 'age 65' would have passed, but probably not for another year or so.

WAKE UP, the leadership of alpa does Whatever THEY Want, and NOT what the membership wants.

Bye.

I don't remember the word "support". ALPA said they will work for us in the implementation AFTER the government announced they would change the age. ALPA can't change the rule to 65 or stop the change to 65. The government did. ALPA is just a union of pilots. They were helpless. Sorry about the thread drift. I didn't start it.

Reread Planedrvr's post.

That's exactly how it went down.

The first post said it all. What "update" do you need?
