"CAL is not looking too shabby. We're taking 30 new aircraft over the next two years as well"

Aircraft orders are a pipe dream... they can turn them on/off like a faucet.

Not going to happen. Maybe slow the 737's, but not turn it off. CAL is getting a few airframes per month from the faucet. CAL cannot get widebodies fast enough, they want the 25 787's, but are getting 8 777's due to delays. Only 2 next year.

I'd bet against that. We will take delivery of more efficient aircraft.

Hmmm....Lets see.....keep a fleet of older aircraft (B737-300/500's) that are less fuel efficient in cost per seat mile when fuel cost buck the lines on record highs, or go ahead an accelerate replacing them with existing orders/deliveries with way more fuel efficient aircraft (B737 NG's)???

Just a "guess", but safe to think that management and the board will most likely go with the second option.

Not saying that they will take every single aircraft of the 111 over the next 6 years, but safe to say, a good amount on "trading" out the older airframes will most likely happen. Always better to have the option of turning down the order as opposed to scambling to them in the future.

I agree with UAL, I am not so sure that those orders will ever show up if this fuel environment sticks around, a reduction of 30 aircraft with the new deliveries may not be enough. Anyone who has done this long enough knows that nothing is predictable. This is a game of survival

I don't want to get into a ****ing match and I honestly really am not a die hard CAL rabble-rouser (they happened to call me first). However, without as much bias as possible, I do believe CAL will indeed take all - or almost all of our deliveries. Again, looking strictly at our management's strategic vision and our profits (or at least the minimal lack thereof), we're head and shoulders above UAL (nothing against the pilots - just your haenious management) and poised to do OK in the near term. CAL has gone ugly early with the 3,000 job cut announcement and lost 80 million in Q1 (as opposed to 500 plus million loss in Q1 @ UAL).

Besides our money losing 500's and 300's (to a lesser degree) we certainly have the most fuel effecient fleet of the legacies with all our -800, -900, and -900ER's (with quite a few more to follow in the next 2 years). That in itself is a natural fuel hedge to some degree.

Simpler question: If one was to be unlucky enough to be furloughed, do you continue progressing in pay when you come back? Example: furloughed as a new hire, come back two years later, are you on year three payscale?

Depends on what's in your contract. That's one of the issues with DL/NW. Delta furloughees accrued longevity while out. Northwest guys did not. The fix is to credit the NW guys and make them whole.
