I find it hard to believe this is really an issue...
I can understand (although I may not agree completely with) the USAir folks problems with the seniority intergration, but if they REALLY do (which I doubt) have a problem with using a Catus callsign, than it says they have no respect for the "merger" and have lost what support I was giving them.
But again, I doubt they really do have a problem with Catus.
Then again, I've been wrong before...
Evidently, I stand humbly corrected...
Hard to believe. I haven't seen an America West painted jet in a long, long time. Is USAPA saying the AZ Cardinals plane is unsafe with a Cactus or USAir call sign because it is painted "different?" How about the PSA painted jet? Or the Piedmont, or the Star Alliance? (And, no, you can read "US Airways" painted on the side from the tower. Sorry.)
What about Redwood, "Air Wisconsin, Chitaqua (sp?), Waterski or the others? Are these unsafe event though they are painted like a legacy jet? No. (And, no, you can read "ASA" or "Express Jet" or "Skywest" painted on the side from the tower. Sorry.)
It'd be easier to convince most professional pilots (outside of USAir East) that legacy management deserves huge bonuses than that this is a "safety" issue.
USAPA is acting like US Air save America West from shutting their doors the next day, instead of the other way around.
Tell you the truth, I really don't want the Easties using the Cactus call sign. We had a perfect safety record for the entire America West tenure, something US Airways couldn't fathom. Retire the call sign with dignity, pick a new one, let's move on. But after the fuelish 8 and the USAPA ad in USA Today, I think Parker had enough and pushed Bular (the Easties BFF) to implement what they had said they would do 2 years ago - make Cactus the call sign.
All this pales in relationship to the furloughs out of seniority out West and the special deals cut to let 6 East pilots hired off furlough out West to go back East. We also are not getting the jets America West had scheduled for delivery prior to the merger. We have had 120 Captain reductions where before we had upgrades. Pilots on the property prior to the merger are being furloughed while guys on the street back East keep their jobs. Most of us are just staying here until we can get on somewhere else. In a few years "Cactus" will most likely be a historical footnote just like "Eastern" or "Clipper" or "TWA".
Right. Good Logic! Parker is upset with the East so, even though he is furloughing you guys, in your view, out of seniority, he's getting back at the East by making us say "cactus." Man, that'll show us!
Yes, I believe you have real insight into the way Parker operates. Good management!
OK, whatever.....but you stand by your notion that Parker told Bular to implement the call sign as some sort of retaliation for USAPA standing up for Captain's Authority? That is beyond inane.
As an aside, do you know how many other airline pilots are in strong support of USAPA on this issue? Oh, that's right, you're probably non-union at this point.....
Tell you the truth, I really don't want the Easties using the Cactus call sign. We had a perfect safety record for the entire America West tenure, something US Airways couldn't fathom.
A silly and nasty argument.
