Default AA Boeing-787

Why hasn't it happened yet?
Assuming a large order is in their future, what aircraft would it be used to replace? Both the 757 & 767 with the different types? Boeing must love AA with all their orders, so I am very suprised they haven't been able to put together some kind of deal. One that would greatly benefit both sides. I guess they are concentrating on the biggest need right now and that is the MD fleet? Right? Maybe British Airways, after their deal is confirmed, can flow some cash to AA to get some new frames flying over the Atlantic.?

The beatings will continue (no new airplane orders) until morale improves (sign this POS concessionary contract so we can grow.) Sound familiar? Otherwise known as the proverbial dangling carrot.

AMR will order 787s if they feel the need to. I'll be darned if I'm going to subsidize them with another concessionary contract to "spur them on" in ordering new aircraft. Those will come regardless of what kind of contract we have, when they decide they need to grow.

How about NO MONEY??? You can't order $180 million airplanes when you can't afford it! AA's just trying to survive, forget ordering new jets (except converting old options to orders for 737-800s).

Pay for the 787 would have to be negotiated with the APA. Both union and company have way too many other issues that need attention in the current negotiations. Once a contract agreement is reached, everyone can talk about the 787.

There is a backlog of orders, so the next available one from Boeing is a long way off- if they are even ontime with delieveries.

Backlogs don't mean much when you are a large company like AA or Delta. Boeing will find a way to get them aircraft when they want them. The VP of flight ops at Delta stated numerous times that they can get 787 when needed if needed. The winglets for the 767 and the weight and range problems on the 787 are making it less attractive. Many buyers are waiting for the -9 version.

Make no mistake---if AA or DL could get B-787s (-8 or -9) now, it would make a huge difference in fuel savings. The new DL/NW actually has some 787s on order, thanks to NW.

Last I heard the center wingbox was 6000lbs overweight.
It had to be reinforced after failing structural tests...

lets see 6000lbs = 30 pax...

Any fuel saving advantage the 787 had just went out the window on a seat/mile basis, that's why AA is spending the money to fix up the 767 with winglets.

Appart from the supply chain problem Boeing faces, there are many new never before tested technologies on the 787 like electric "bleed" pressurization.

I'd be surprised if the 787 enters scheduled service before 2012.

Cheers
George
