Ferd,

I am not saying they are all bad. I just had a couple of bad experiences trying to get out of ORD a few months ago that were brought to the attention of our jumpseat coordinator. There are always a few at every airline that are not very nice or they are just having a bad day. I just drew that card 2 of the 3 times I have ever ridden American. I don't not ride them because of that, they just don't go where Southwest can take me direct.

As an off line jumpseater, when I list myself using the phone number on AA do I have to specify jupseater or 'meal list'?
Also, if I list myself on AA as a back up flight to get to work but was able to take an earlier NWA flight instead, do I need to cancel the listing, or by me not showing up will it not even matter?

When you get to the agent on the phone, you just tell him/her you would like to list yourself as a jumpseater for flight XXXX to KHOM. No, there is no need to call and cancel your listing. I called them once in that situation and I think it confused more than helped them. If you are unsure of how the flight looks the agent will usually give you an idea of the load (some more specifically than others). In addition to the DFW ticket agents being helpful, MIA treated me very well. The only times I ever got any attitude was when I was running late and would try to list with the gate agent (they had no idea how I could get through security without any kind of boarding pass). After you have done this a few times, you'll become a robot and know what info they need from you before they do.
