Default How long before you got the call from Southwest.

I just finished my ATP today and have finished my application for Southwest. Now what? Is there any way to find out if they received it? Should I call the hiring department? Just wondered if there was some sort of time line for the guys that have been getting calls, not including the ones that had their applications in before they stopped hiring. Now the real waiting begins.

p3pilot, it took me 15 months after adding a 737 type rating from another airline with around 5000 total hours (P3 included), 3500 PIC hours, and 2000 IP hours. Not trying to brag, but want to let you know that with all of the Aloha, CAL, and UAL guys putting in apps, it will be a tough road. I see you are a C-12 instructor, that will help. Make sure you get some friends helping out with talking to their chief pilots.

I wouldn't call the PD about whether your app made it in, it will. I would call to get to know some of those that work there and ask where you stand, how many apps on file (close to 40,000 last month when I interviewed), and what you can do to improve the chances.

I still don't think you need the 73 rating for the interview per se (it will improve your chances) as I know some mil guys are interviewing without it.

Good luck to you. It is tough right now as they can pick and choose since the apps have been piling up with hiring just beginning again after over a year.

Is it really close to 40,000? Sometimes a dose of reality is not needed.

After getting my type and sending in my updated app, it took 48 hrs. Yup, and when Kim from SWA called she asked if I wanted to interview in 2 weeks. I said YES, big mistake. Becareful what you ask for. For me it was my first interview in 6 years, I made all the "rookie" mistakes you could make, you know not big ones just a little "rusty". My advice, take your time and be very prepared when you get the call so that you'll shine in the interview. SWA would have been a great job, but it just wasn't in the cards. Don't be a dope like me and squander the opportunity.

To clarify my post because it seems like the an update of a 73 type rating is causing some quick calls. My app was in for 14 months without a call (no interviewing going on for most of it anyways) but within 2 weeks of updating with the 73 rating, I was called.

Again, not needed but it is causing a quicker call it looks like.

I've had the 737 type for over a year and no calls. About 4,000 TT, 2,700 PIC/IP/EP, 200 hrs in the 737.

Last time I spoke to th PD they said 35,000 on file but 2500 that they consider "active." i.e. updated every 3 months.
