There is no way the sodas and snacks would be free. Gotta keep that ancillary up. In fact, they could charge for the window seat, the oxygen bottle, and the space-sickness bag.

Allegiant would be remiss if they didn't look in to this. After all, the highest per capita number of visitors to Las Vegas come from Hawaii. When they realize what would happen if they tried it, however, they would be remiss if they didn't abandon the idea.

The strikes are:

Crazy fuel prices and a long stage length -
New aircraft training and maintenance costs -
ETOPS requirements - It took Airways over a year to become somewhat reliable -
Intense competition and declining visitor arrivals - Hawaiian will match your prices no matter what.
Hawaii is focusing on higher end visitors so little help from the state.
No way to compete with mileage award travel.

Not likely without buying someone. I don't think Allegiant could get ETOPs in less than 3-5 years. There's no way training could devise the training program, let a lone the manuals to do this. And, don't even get me started on dispatch. They can barely dispatch from SFB-PIE. How would they ever do LAS- HNL?

Since ATA has moved on, SWA has been looking for a colde share partner to connect the west coast to Hawaii. Maybe Allegiant is trying to get a piece of that pie.

They won't get it it. They're going to start using WestAir, but the US Gov. won't let them do point to point between ML US and HI.

SWA could get ETOPS on the B737 before Allegiant could on anything else.

I don't know how quick we could be approved for ETOPS but didn't Alaska borrow one of our -700's to do their proving runs to Hawaii

Alaska did their runs in their own -800s.

Fly Gal,

Whoever told you that was on crack. We only fly ETOPS in our ETOPS certified -800's and no proving run would have been valid in a -700. We have our own -700's if we had wanted to use one of them anyhow.

I'm sure SW could gain approval for ETOPS if they decided to do it, but it is a very lengthy process and would probably take at least as long as it took Alaska. We've had our eye on Hawaii for several years.
