Default Allegiant In Hawaii

Just got word Allegiant is thinking about buying three 757's to run between LAS-HNL any word on this? Also they are looking at ETOPs ratings as well as hops between the islands. Anybody have anything to add to this?

I doubt that it will happen any time soon. ETOPS doesn't come cheap or easy.

dint ATA do runs between LAS-HNL? I think only Omni and HA flies between the two. not sure if it is a good move, since that is not the type of business model Allegiant has (flights between two major cities/airports)

Could perhaps be a good move for getting Ma and Pa Kettle from the smaller places Allegiant flies to LAS to HNL. Sometimes rural people want to go to Hawaii too you know!

On a serious note, I have pretty much stopped second guessing Allegiant. They seem to have handled being a start-up, the record high fuel, etc really well. I know that they may not pay what seem think they should, but to me they are doing things in a methodical and effective way.

Yes, ATA was running a daily 757-200 on the LAS-HNL route before they shut down. Aloha also had one-stop service using a LAS-OAK-HNL routing. Omni and Hawaiian are the only ones operating it now...Omni pretty much flies it daily with a 757-200 (they used to run a DC-10-30 on it fairly often), and Hawaiian has two daily 767-300s (one of them is actually a WESTBOUND red-eye that arrives into HNL at 5:20a).

LAS is a huge market from Hawaii, so Allegiant might be able to make it work. However, it does stray from their business model, so it would definitely pose a good amount of risk.

It took Alaska 22 months to get ETOPS on their 737's.

Since Allegiant has never flown the B757 nor Class II nav, it would most likely take quite a bit longer.

Is the ATA 121 cert. still in one piece? Just as a concept: Allegiant buy the ATA cert and their ETOPS stuff and merge it into all Allegaint.

It is, but only has 2 L10's on it. All the managment has moved on, so there's a problem there with the FAA, as their has to be some training and mangement to go along with it. Might be easier to start over with their own aircraft.

There's quite a talent pool out there looking for work that could make it easier. I wouldn't try to figure it out by myself.

Remember that if a certificate does not have flying performed on it for more than 30 days it goes dormant. (IE is pulled)

We are also rumored to be partnering with Richard Branson to hopefully start space tours come fall... I hear that we'll be offering free soda's and snacks on those flights.
