While hiring Republic to fly 12 EMB-170s to replace those 16 returned 717s. So the new fleet for "Midwest" is planned for:

9 717
12 EMB-170 (Republic)
12 CRJ-200 (SkyWest)

Ground services are already contracted out at MKE and almost all outstations. Midwest Connect RJ flying is all contracted. I think this very well may be the first attempt to run an airline with just an HQ and the rest contractors.

The dominos have been tipped.....
Will you guys hurry and strike it, so even these idiots will get the hint.
To them, unless it is struck work... it's ok to step over your cold dead body to get to their shiny 70 pax jet at 50 seat pay. Same arguement TSA had with Gojets and Eagle not too long ago... in their eyes, as long as they were not crossing a picket line, they were not stealing job or working conditions away.

Anyone who says the 170-195 is a regional plane need only look here for why it isn't true. Hundreds of good paying jobs going down the tubes thanks to people willing to fly ever bigger jets for less and less money.

I wish the best of luck to the Midwest pilots and I hope their "management" team burns in hell. I think you guys should burn it down.

any jet should be a mainline airplane. yeah im now on the 170 for rw but i wish it was the 170 for usair. of course it originally was but then managment decided it was more cost effective for the share holders to dump the airplane onto a regional. its crap.

The latter attitude prevents the pre-supposition from ever happening.

I know several very good pilots flying various equipment (BE350 thru B767) for various companies. I wouldn't judge their skills, or quality as human beings using your metrics.
I am sorry I suppose the sarcasm got over looked there. My point is they are no different than anyone one else with mouths to feed and bills to pay but the RAH pilots will be looked down on because of this whole debacle which was by no means created by the RAH pilots.

PS: there will never be one pilot union, that opportunity is long past. It would of saved a lot of headaches and given the pilots the control they need over their careers though, wouldn't that of been nice.

Anyhow, there are no shareholders that Midwest (I meanTPG/NWA management) mangement have to please as the airline was taken private 1 year ago. TPG/NWA had failed to do anything, not even drop a penny in the poor bucket until now. They have allowed their $500 Million, keep AirTran away fund, to fail because they don't really care.

As for giving the Midwest flight crews a fair deal to fly the EMB-170 is what YX management did back at the start of summer. They told them to accept a paycut of 45-65% which would pound them smack dab in the RJ pilot payscale. The Midwest crews have flat out told them screw you.

Wait, you want to stick our friendly outstanding YX crews with 88 seat RJ pay scales because it was their fault they took the job??!! Midwest management is reponsible for the flying a 717 will 20 fewer seats than standard. Don't blame the crews one second!
Thanks for updating me on the two letter identifier.

No I don't want to stick our "friendly, outstanding" yx crews with rj rates. The fact remains they could be flying E-175's with 88 seats in them but instead they are flying B717's. The idea was nice but no longer prudent in today's market. I am by no means blaming the Midwest "YX" pilots for taking the job. While everyone continues to blame me for taking mine, how ironic?

No pilot should take even one concession in this fragile market, you and I have given enough all ready. Management/shareholders/consumers are going to have to carry the load this time. This will however mean fewer jobs, fewer flights and companies revamping their business plans. Does it suck, Yep!

Everyone likes to point out how RAH pilots fly for 50 seat rates, please direct me to your information. And please be real lets not get into the crap fo pay. Not one of these companies pays an FO enough. Airline Pilot Central - Downloads | Airline Pilot Pay Snapshot
I'll direct you to the small narrow body pay comparison sheet.
Republic is very competitive in the 5 year captain mark and exceeds even Jet Blue and US Airways on the top end. Horizon is the only one paying more. When our current contract was negotiated we didn't have a single 70 seat aircraft on the property. But since I don't get junior assigned or have to sit hot reserve I am willing to take a little less home and enjoy my time off. They also fought for not getting whipsawed by our own certificates and bull**it like dry leasing airplanes, we'll have to see how that pans out.

I have no qualms with the Midwest folks they are great people as are the crews at republic. It is a shame that we are getting into business under these circumstances. I would have much rather seen it be a growth for both companies, who knows maybe there is a chance that Midwest can get back on their feet with this deal and once again everyone can make some money. P*s*ing on each other certainly won't get anything accomplished.

88 seats in the 717 is no comparison to the E175. How many seats could the 175 hold in an all 1x2 configuration? I think you lose a few rows. It's a different class of flying.

I can't wait to see the spin on replacing the crown jewel "Midwest Class" seats with RJ seats when (if) Timmy is successful in putting those 12 on his ticket. Whatta piece of...

That was my point, it is a different class of flying in a different class of market. The 88 seats in the expensive Boeing is no longer profitable or practical. If the general public were willing to pay for a window or an isle in a first class seat Midwest would not have to be doing crap like this but it appears the public is not willing to pony up. Timmy didn't seem to have too much trouble packing people into the Crj. Wait 'til his passengers can walk down the isle or stand up in the bathroom.

You guys are taking me all wrong on this, I am not supporting this move one bit. It's just that we as pilots have very little to do with any of it. The Midwest pilots have a better chance at making a difference in this deal. We don't actually have a grievance until the company try's to dry lease the airplanes. And at the that rate its not that we don't YX pilots flying 170's we just don't want them flying our 170's and it is a CBA scope violation at that point.

I wonder what ALPA's stance is going to be on this subject? Correct my if I'm wrong, but isn't Republic an ALPA carrier? If that's the case, then ALPA should put an immediate stop to this practice by telling anyone who takes such a job they are in essence taking someone else's job just as if they crossed a picket line.
