Once again someone makes it personal! This is business folks and pretty soon we will be in it for the species ladies and gentlemen! Rock bottom prices are still making profits for us. Boo-Hoo. You still playing the "bankruptcy ain't fair" card? SWA never had to fund expensive employee pensions with hundreds of millions of dollars, and Legacies took advantage of bankruptcy laws. Tough sheet. Everybody played within the rules. It is what it is.
Every body gave SWA the same "2 months" when they started service in DEN too. They said it would be impossible to make it in a major's hub where a local low cost was also based. Fast forward 2 years later and SWA in DEN has how many daily flights?
I say DAL/NWA and SunCountry have to worry about MSP a lot more than SWA.
They did pull out the first time...They RETURNED to DEN in 2006. But that is just history. I agree they will have no problem in Minnie. Probably grow like a weed.
SWA is getting desperate. If you read M. Boyd you'll see that 63 out of their last 77 city pairs are losing money. As oil drops the advantage SWA has over other carries diminishes. MSP, like DEN, is a high costs airport to operate into and out of so SWA must think the merger will result in less flying there for DAL, but we have not been told that so far.
The real question is when is SWA management going to come to you guys for cash and how much are you willing to give? Before you start bashing me please read up on what M. Boyd has to say and remember this NWA pilot along with 112 others were denied jumpseats on you guys in '98 when we were on strike. Yes, you can blame (what was his Paul Sternbenz?) for that decision but still.....I shant go on. Sorry, I don't worship nor envy the SWA model.
63 out of 77 losing money eh? Name the last time swa posted a loss? Doesn't matter what 63 cities are doing, only that swa is going to pummel NWA and whoever tries to do business in MSP. Look no further than DEN and you will see that UAL and Frontier are feeling the hurt SWA has inflicted. SWA is making money, nuff said about who, what, where, when.
Hey Herks.........yeah, we are really going to hate that SWA feed for our Asia or Alaska or Amsterdam flights. Geeze NWA, I mean new Delta, may just have to put on a 2nd NRT flight. Or maybe put the 747 or at least a 777 on to AMS. Oh, and we aren't above putting on real big airplanes to Chicago and give the seats away. Oh wait, NWA doesn't do that. Just ask Frontier and their west coast experiment. Nothing personal, it's just business......like one of your guys said.

I don't work for Jetblue or SWA. All I know is that SWA puts the hurt on the competition when they move in to a new city. The reason DTW did not grow for them was due to Wayne Co., Mi, having sweetheart deals with NWA to keep SWA out. If SWA were allowed to grow in DTW it would not be good for NWA or Spirit. I don't wish anyone be hurt but you can't deny the "Southwest effect." Herb and Colleen fine tuned SWA into a cash making machine over the last 37 years.
Southwest is a good company with very good management - why are you SW guys so defensive? I fly for DAL and like it - feel free to rip DAL to shreds, it is what it is. Enjoy the ride and ignore the BS and flamebait.
