Quick Queston for any of Ned's Kiddies....

Saw and heard a generic looking 737 with a blue tail, no markings land at LGA with a "Spirit Wings" callsign.

Saw the same guppy at FLL a day or so ago...

Are you guys farming out some flying?

Xtra Airways is doing some temporary subservice for us. We have a aircraft out of service for rudder actuator replacement. Good thing we have those spares HQ keeps telling us about.

PRESS RELEASE
June 20, 2013, 5:09 a.m. EDT
Spirit Airlines Orders 20 New Airbus A321 Aircraft

MIRAMAR, Jun 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Spirit Airlines SAVE +1.33% and Airbus announced today that they have entered into an agreement for the firm order of 20 Airbus A321 aircraft.

These aircraft are in addition to the 96 aircraft not yet delivered under Spirit's existing order and will be scheduled for delivery between 2015 and 2017.

In addition, Spirit has opted to convert 10 of its existing A320 aircraft orders to A321 aircraft that will be scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018. These 10 A321s as well as the additional 20 will be current engine option (ceo) models and will be outfitted with fuel-saving Sharklets.

"We are pleased to expand our partnership with Airbus and excited about the growth opportunities and additional cities we will be able to liberate from high fares with the addition of these aircraft," said Ben Baldanza, Chief Executive Officer of Spirit Airlines.

"Spirit's priority has always been to save its passengers money, while transporting them as comfortably as possible," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. "That is exactly what the A320 Family allows the airline to achieve. These are eco-efficient machines with wonderful comfort characteristics."

The new aircraft will support Spirit's targeted growth markets in the United States, Caribbean and Latin America.

Wow, more orders? I'm surprised they went with A321s though, I thought I remember reading somewhere in an investor document they will try and stick with A320s. Either way, growth and more airplanes is great!

Doesn't the A321 climb like a dog, though? Isn't it same engines as on A319/320?

I've thought for a while now we would be getting more 321's. They haul 30+ more people and only burn slightly more fuel. It's a no brainer.

Am I reading this correctly? They will come with sharklets?. Also it says 10 of the 96 320 order will be converted to 321s, so total of 32?

I think there is more to it. I could be wrong but I believe it has to do also with how much faster we can get them on property versus the A320. I will try to find out the delivery dates.
