I just have to ask, does your name indicate that you are from Iowa? I'd be interested to hear from where. I don't think that there are many of us.

No, sorry, no Iowa connection. Grew up on the east coast, live in Michigan now.

Could this be to finance the JFK terminal project?

In other news TGU closed until further notice. Their deposed President returned and holed up the Brazilian Embassy. The Authorities closed the airports to keep protesters/journalists/supporters/business/everyone else, out or maybe to keep the deposed President in, who knows?

Maybe some reserve 737 pilots will actually not have to fly the weekend TGU run this week. But then again, the revolutionaries don't much like working through the weekend either, so this might be resolved before Friday.

Any pilots disappointed by this news (insomniacs who dislike their families) still have time to grab the double red eye MAO trips. Don't forget your Malaria pills and DEET.

Nah, infrastructure improvements have to come from operating profit (with the possible exception of the EWIP or Executive Washroom Improvement Project. There are only a few things management can do with financed $, such as:

Management bonuses.
Management pensions.
Management boondoggles.
Management kickback opportunities.

Delta to sell $1.25 billion of notes for general goals

New $500 million added Tuesday, to be secured by lien on Pacific slots.

By Gabrielle Coppola
Bloomberg News
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
Delta Airlines Inc. plans to sell $1.25 billion of notes as soon as today, according to a person familiar with the offering.
The carrier is marketing $750 million of first-lien notes due in September 2015 that may yield 9.875 percent, said the person, who declined to be identified because terms aren’t set.

Delta added $500 million of second-lien notes due in March 2015 that may price to yield about 13 percent, the person said.
Delta said it plans to use the proceeds of the second-lien notes for general corporate purposes.
The notes will be secured by a lien on Delta’s Pacific route authorities, slots and gate leases.
The move comes after Delta last week announced a $500 million private debt offering due 2014 to refinance debt from merger partner Northwest Airlines.
Separately, Delta and other airlines are reportedly in talks about making an investment of several hundred million dollars in Japan Airlines.

9.875 percent??? That's not baaaaad. I'm guessing they would still be junk rated though. Any ideas here?

Wall street doesn't seem to care much about it though. stock is down this morning.

On a seperate note: Lane Kiffin is da man!

Default Competition between DAL + AA

What are Delta and American up to? Seems like they're in a race to see who can accumulate the most debt. Am I wrong on this? I thought Delta has happy with the amount of Cash they had on hand.
