Have averaged 105 hours a month this year and have had more time at home than ever. Spent the last 4 days with family & the next 6 doing nothing but catching up on honey do lists & a bit if boating. More important things on life than the almighty dollar. We only go around on this planet once (that we know of).

Do yourselves & your families a favor. Move to your base as soon as you can.
Ditto. After a year I figured I spent about 3 or 4 days a month commuting. A four day trip on the 727 panel then was worth about $1500. So, I decided to move to Atlanta.

For the past 16 years, I have basically been able to pursue anything that Delta has to offer that my seniority will hold. From here you can be an instructor, work in management, be junior and sit reserve; be senior and pick up anything that falls into the pot; and never bother checking the weather or travelnet.

I personally choose to sit on widebody reserve and see how long I can grow my beard before I get called out. The beauty is that everybody wants something different. Whatever you want at Delta, however, is easier and more available at a hub. (Junior hubs are obviously better yet)

I understand that many people can't move because of family or other important reasons and I support initiatives that make the lives of commuters easier. But, if you're a new hire and have a choice, make the effort sooner rather than later. You'll most likely be glad you did.

The other reason is the flight attendants don't like long trips and the senior momma's would scream bloody murder if they took their 10 hour turns away. On my last ATL-SEA trip the FA's were on the first leg of a almost 11 hour turn. Their walkers took up all the space in the first class overheads.
Do the airplanes have different work rules than the pilots? Not every jet is being sequenced for maintenance today/tomorrow.

Dude......you're going to screw yourself in the a heart attack from that high blood pressure if you don't start relaxing just a wee bit.

Yeah you're right. It just seems that you and index and PD and Carl never miss an opportunity to put in an dALPA dig. I"ve been here long enough to see that the headliners in these kind of "get rid of dALPA" guys and those that support them are all about the dues money. They'll say differently when called on it, but usually the cornerstone of their "get rid of dALPA" campaign is lowering of dues. Mainly I just find it sad that your opinion of the guys that work for you is so low. But you're right, I should let it go.

it aint the people well maybe a few of the prople, its the structure and environment. its way more frustrating that there isnt a better option period, sorta like choosing between a bowl of cat vomit or dog diarrhea

One of my boys did. Easy. But just like a house or a car or a boat, it's all the accessories and components that jack up the cost. If you are doing it to have an AR built just like you want it go for it. If you think you are saving money, not so much. PM me if you want more info on where and what.

I've considered moving multiple times and know I'm losing money by not living in base but have offset that loss by starting a business that does pretty well, which allows me more time at home with kids and family, instead of chasing money.

As my parents get up there in age, I will never regret that I didn't spend enough time with them. I see them and my sisters and my in-laws several times a week. I hate commuting, and I wish it was easier, but I will commute for the rest of my life if it means working with all of you here at Delta, AND spending as much time as I do with the people I've known my whole life. That's what's important to me.

YMMV. Peace, E
The other side of the coin. Well said.
