Drill baby drill? We are #1 of oil producing countries. Oil has been our primary source of energy for the last 100 years. Just like every thing else new technology will leave oil in our history books.

That is a little misleading. We are actually 3rd behind the Saudi's and Russia in Crude only production. That article and others reference us being number one in production of oil, natural gas, and biofuels. I'm not sure why the titles say number one in oil production when they really mean oil, gas, and biofuel. We are forecast to be number one in just crude oil in 2015 though.

Time stamp 38:30 is where he mentions electric flight. The whole interview is interesting if you have time.

He should know, with his experience in battery technology. What I find interesting about the guy is his ominous view of artificial intelligence. He thinks we may be literally conjuring a demon. He owns stock in several AI companies in order to keep an eye on them. Of course the most advanced stuff is probably at JPL, behind a few blast doors.

Yep. Controversial topic, but if we could drill on BLM land and build the pipelines to transport the stuff to market, this country would see an economic revolution like it has never seen before. There is enough natural gas in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming to fuel the world for hundred of years. By then we could easily have fusion or whatever else Mesabah talked about figured out.

Nvidia has the most advanced stuff, they have artificial neural networks that already have the intelligence and learning capability of small animals. That's not the scary stuff though, there is research into DNA programming to create custom human brain tissue to use in a hybrid human/supercomputer.

In other words, next year, or the year after that! :roll eyes:

I think the merger was announced, with list combined and complaining ceased quicker than this whole tablet in the cockpit has come to fruition.

Guys,

This is a very interesting subject. A few weeks back someone posted a link to a "Seven Sisters" documentary. I viewed all 4. They were very thought provoking and pretty accurate with all they presented but they left out a lot, an awfully lot, that did not mesh with their point of view.

If you really want to be knowledgeable about oil and its history this is a must read:

The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power by Daniel Yergin | 9781439110126 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble

The only way to describe this book is awesome. It is not ideological but more historical/academic which I really liked. It is basically a world history of energy/politics from the 1850's and although very long and detailed you will not want to put it down. A very enjoyable read.

If you want to be knowledgeable about oil/energy this is a great place to start.
