The point is, for the new guys, don't take these good times for granted. Don't go out and buy your Captain house today. It just takes one sizable event and the tables turn.
Thanks for the HSA input. I reread all the docs and went that direction. I would have done it earlier, but was told, more than once it was incompatible with tricare...I retired from the reserves 3 years ago, so there's 3 years I missed out while I was tricare ineligible.
We are not huge consumers of health care, but we do all the normal check ups and some dr.s visits. I went comprehensive dental...you were right Denny, the DPMP is the same as comprehensive. My ADD didn't help me make that connection.
Anyway, I'm not posting this for any reason except there may be someone else in my situation.

What I thought I said is that during our last big hiring cycle 96-01 guys were upgrading to Captain on Express in about 18 months. You as an August 01 hire wouldn't have hit that point yet before the furlough came. Actually I didn't mean everyone in that group could hold Captain then get furloughed. I do know that at one time the Captain was a Feb 00 hire and I was an August of 00 hire. This was in 01. 2 years later we were both on the streets.

We don't have a clear sense here of whom this move was designed to please, whether it's labor, or the Administration, or Latinos we want to fly north and south, but I bet that audience notices.
It would have been better to keep shut on this issue.
If our individual and collective biases on APC were driving Delta's commercial and political decisions, then I suppose we'd issue statements supporting the administration for lifting the ban on undercleavage. Our billboards would somehow contain the term "MILF" (but in a very classy way). Cheerleaders would travel free, in First, right where the pilots are. The route network would be redrawn, and the schedule optimized, to better support and match football season. All of our fleet would be "Mainline by Boeing", except for a few token A330's for former North guys experiencing withdrawals. Aircraft owned by NAI and Emirates would be turned back over Canada, by F-16's, and we'd support that too. In return, we'd get air medals, and new, triple-breasted jackets.

Although retired, I still have a small life insurance/accidental death policy through Delta. Does anyone know who underwrites these policy's or does Mama D self-insure these?

Right. And the general public is probably not the intended beneficiary of this move. And sure enough, I don't think the general public would notice this move, much less remember this move in a week from now.

In order to know that, you'd have to have an understanding of BOTH the risks AND rewards implied in this move. Collectively, we on APC have no idea.
It reminds me a little of the heavy courting of gays and lesbians, which didn't make us on APC particularly happy. I assume it's paying some sort of dividend, because Delta's still at it, and the other airlines have followed suit.

I've got no problem with that!
Some of my best friends even want LGB Pay!
(not that there's anything wrong with that)

That is because they are usually dual income couples with no kids, and they love to spend their money traveling around the world. i.e. some of our best customers!

Your point is well taken. I took out that paragraph you quoted, but it's probably a good example of Delta pragmatically finding revenue in (literally) unconventional ways. I don't really know how this latest move helps Delta's commercial or regulatory objectives, but the pattern has been pragmatism and commercial tolerance. In practical terms, for pilots, the pattern has been to treat all of our passengers with respect, and make them feel welcome.
Only makes good sense.

Unassigned (?) Pilot Pay
Getting conflicting information and can't find anything definitive in the contract - is there any pay provision for being assigned to a category before it's open (NYC717B)? Finished IOE a few days ago but category doesn't open until December bid period. I've been told that my only pay mechanism is out of base white slips, which doesn't seem.....right. There's no pro-rated guarantee as a line holder?
Thanks for any insight.
