True.
DPMP for a single guy is a no brainer. For a couple, it's a pretty simple decision.
When you throw a single child into the mix, the decision becomes harder unless you have braces or something like that coming up.
For a family with several kids, DPMP is back to no brainer.

Mesabah's picture is oversized but in this case there is no foul.

Newby question.
Have four days of reserve starting Thanksgiving day. Would prefer to not hang round the crash pad, what's the best way to ensure I fly? Drop a yellow slip? Or just assume I'm going to fly cause its Turkey day and I have supreme juniority?
Speaking of yellow slips, not an easily understandable thing.

The terms; yellow slip, white slip, green slip all came about 30+ years ago, when Delta did everything with a pencil and a piece of paper. If you wanted to pick up a trip, if you were a line holder you used the white piece of paper to request the trip, reserves used the yellow piece of paper, and if you wanted to work 'overtime' you used the green piece of paper. These papers were only 1/3 sheets of a normal page, thus the 'slip' term came to be.
You had to be present, to physically write it out and submit it into a drop box at the crew scheduling desk, or if you were tight with a crew scheduler, you might be able to call him and have him submit it for you...and you'd buy him a bottle of something expensive come Christmas, of course!
BUT...back then, there were very few commuters, because Delta had a lot of small bases, and every base had it's own crew scheduling desk, where you physically signed in, on a piece of paper, for your trip (pre DL Technology and it's computer days, i.e. pre-2008 ) so you were always in a place where you could submit your slips, or you called your "Friend" in crew scheduling.
I was 727 engineer on a trip one time when the copilot was complaining about a trip he'd been assigned. The Captain looked at him and said, "Who's your buddy in Crew Scheds?"
The F/O says, "I don't have buddy in crew scheds..."
The Captain said, "There's your problem."
If you want to find a bunch of free time on Saturday and Sunday, read "The King of Sports" and "League of Denial." Huge numbers on NFL players are injected with Toredol and other drugs just to get through the games.
Kinda lost interest in football.
My head is about to explode(as it does this time every year) as I go thru the options, including the 248 pages of DPMP! I've got two teenage boys and a working wife. I've done Gold HRA and leaning towards that this year. You think DPMP is a better choice? I might have shoulder surgery next year as well. Thanks for the thoughts in advance.
My head exploded, we are still cleaning the walls. IMO, there a far smarter guys than me on this topic, but IMO again, if you are gonna have surgery, DPMP let's you choose the best doctor in the country to do it and covers it after the deductible. Higher premiums are a small price to pay for that...

Question for the wizards of section 23 and the 117 loa...
I am on vacation until the day before Thanksgiving, start res on Thanksgiving.
I believe I have no req'd sched check the day before, right?
Is noon the earliest I could be assigned to report on day 1 of res after vacation?
I should probably know this stuff, but only do reserve in months that I have vacation.
thanks to all

Does anyone have any experience with the DPMP. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to pick our insurance for next year. I know the premium is higher, however if you have any significant event (like a surgery) it looks like you come out ahead because of the deductable and co-insurance max out of pocket.
