Dude,

Basic is good. I spent 2 hours trying to read between the lines for this info in the contract, and you answered all my questions in 5 minutes. Thanks man.

When you're on short call, is it for that whole period or can they mix long and short call within that 4 or 5 day period; and how do X days fit into all this?

Thanks again for the great info.

I was that one guy (1990's - although in a nice Brooks Brothers grey chalk pinstripe, striped shirt etc...) and got hired; as a matter of fact the Captain who interviewed me joked with me about it!

I recently flew with a pilot who does interviews and he categorically stated that the old "blue-suit-red-tie" gouge was total BS, and that as long as you looked sharp and professional it did not matter what colors you wore.

Can anyone explain why you would want to work for Delta, or any other legacy carrier ? Just look at YEAR 10 FO PAY using guarantee...simply embarrassing.

Just wondering...

Uh Oh. This great Thread just turned into a "let's defend" or "let's bash" Delta. Don't go there. There is some awesome info in this tread, so let's not ruin it. There are lot's of other Treads for that.

I am also very interested in this question. Also, how many days off does one usually get off between reserve days?

Thanks

Let's say you are starting a period of five days on call. You could be given short call the first day, long call the second day, then short call again the third day. No hard and fast rules.....other than the limit of 8 short calls per month.

Having said that, typically, you will either be on short call or flying. Staffing in all the categories is pretty tight.

An X day is a day off. Days off can be X days or star days. Basically, an X day is a day off they can violate if they need too. Say you have two days left on call and a three day trip pops up. Scheduling could give give you the three day trip (assuming they have exhausted all other options) and move your day off if its an X say. A star day cannot be violated......an important point when you are bidding to get Christmas or Thanksgiving off!

When reserve lines are built, and for now they are built the old fashion way vs PBS for line holders, there are all kinds of lines. Typically you will have three or four days off inbetween on call periods.
