I usually happy with most layovers, but I think the contractual obligation to always put us downtown on a long layover doesn't always need to be honored. On some of the layovers, the short layover hotels actually have more options and at better prices than the long layover hotels. Kind of like what they do in DTW for a long layover.
Most appropriate on topic Top Gun pic post ever.
Amen. You hate passing commercialized areas with tons of shopping and restaurants to go to one of the many dead downtowns. It's frustrating. Sure we want downtown New York, SFO, BOS, ORD, BNA, OMA but we can skip so many others for something safer and cheaper.
+1 Avoided that place for a while, but grabbed a $12.00 (After Discount) Steak Dinner and was pleasantly surprised. It sure beat the $20 Cobb salad I had over in SJC the night earlier.

In my C-5 days the slogan was "Cargo never complains!"
How many $20 envelopes can you fit in an airplane versus $200 passenger who wants to take five bags with them for free with all the rights of a refundable ticket?
How often does rubber dog crap call you as you're finally rounding the corner for takeoff for a wheels up time and say a lap child is not under 2 so what do you want to do because the flight is full?

It wasn't really rubber dog crap in 1985......have to go back to the mid 70's.......ask me how I know .

The local billionaire, Carl Linder, bought it back in the late '80s. DAL had just established the hub and he didn't like paying NYC lease rates so he moved the company there. Unfortunately he died a couple of months ago but the move to relocate started well before that. I grew up in CVG (sister actually dated Linder's nephew for a few years, sadly young love never matured) and was always astounded by how negative the media portrayed DAL. Admittedly it had the highest airfares in the country, but you were able to go to over 100 destinations, 5 of them to Europe at the peak for a town of 1.5 million. Well, they are getting what they wanted. We'll see if it pans out. Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, Federated/Macy's Department Stores, 5/3 Bank, Chiquita, GE Jet Engines and a host of other companies call it home. There is a lot of purchasing power potentially for someone.
