It's a junk bond for sure with Tilton at the helm.

Is it that time of year again for executive bonuses? Better raise some cash.

What a shame, UA was such a great airline a decade or so ago. It really is sad, this has MESA and J.O. written all over it!!! Desperate move by Tilton and company.

My theory is that if they don't get a buyer/investor soon, a little airline from the south is going to pick them up during the garage sale, thus, avoiding the labor disputes which are guaranteed to be far worse than USair/AMW debacle in the event of a "merger" (you know profitable young fleet, young labor group, better managed airline acquires heavily in debt, failing, poorly managed airline).

That will buy them about a month at their current rates. The efficiency of that operation has to be the worst in existance.

In other words, "secured credit holders". If UAL goes BK, they'll be first in line to get their $$$ money back.

What could possibly go wrong? (re: Chrysler, GM bondholders) Seriously, who the heck would lend a failing company anything now that the rule of law no longer applies?

They'll be takers, of course. But since the risk has gone up due to the new banana republic system, I suspect that money is going to be very, very expensive for places like UAL.
